Soo my Rep. suggested this sander

Hey guys! My paint rep decided this would be my shops best bet for post paint sanding.

.::Eagle Abrasives, Inc - Specialty Tools and Polishing Products::. (the first one)

I did think this was a bit expensive, so do you guys have any other alternatives?

Some variables to consider, right now we use 2500 grit to sand anything after we paint. We've found this works best for us, to remove small nibs of dust and if some for some reason orange peel need to be cut down a tad, this grits seems to balance that well. (All hand sanded btw)

So ideally, I'd like DA.. Just not sure which one? We don't need anything overly fancy, just something consistent and reliable to get the job done. Thanks guys!

You might want to give Kevin Brown a call... he'll be able to give you the best advice regarding your sanding needs.

thanks for the suggestion, how do i get in contact with the infamous KB?

His number is on his website: Buff Daddy

One thing to keep in mind though is that the price on that tool your rep suggested ($300) isn't really out-of-line when it comes to a professional grade piece of equipment, especially if we're talking about something being used in a production shop where it will see continuous duty. A cheaper tool could probably do the job, but you'd likely be replacing them more often and in the long run, end up spending more than just getting the best you can afford in the first place.

Well, that isn't one. DA's rotate and orbit, rectangular sheet sanders just orbit. I guess that's not necessarily better or worse, just different. It depends on how you'll use it.

But it sounds like you'll be using it for everything and I seriously doubt it would be as effective, efficient or versatile as a DA.

Plus, it locks you into sheet abrasives, which precludes use of the many wonderful disk abrasives available.

Anyway, talk to KB, he's the man.

And welcome to the world of machine finish sanding. You'll be amazed at the improvement in ease, speed and quality of your work. You'll be kicking yourself for not switching sooner.

yea, that square one^

I won't be using it for everything. We already have a DA for sanding body filler etc.

This sander I'm looking for will be just for dry/wet sanding post paint.

You guys are finally going to machine sanding???!!!!! That's a revalation. :)

Try it. Slap on some 3M Trizact 1500 & 3000 on and you should be good to go. Or, hand sand with your 2000 and then refine with 3000 Trizact to ease up your buffing.
