Sonüs Paintwork Cleanser vs. P21S Paintwork Cleansing Lotion Part 1.

Here goes my first real review.

David B. was nice enough to send me a bottle of the Sonüs Paintwork Cleanser to try. Being a big fan of the P21S, I decided to do a side by side comparison.

I don't have a camera to show the differences so I'll try to describe them as best I can.

I will say that both of these products have thier +'s & -'s!

I started by doing a QD using Z6 on the hood of my truck, but I did not remove all of the product, just enoug to remove the dust and allow the Z6 to dry on the hood, causing a haze to work with.

I left the crease in the middle hazed with Z6 so I could judge the 2 products better.

I applied the Sonüs on the passenger side of the hood, using an MF applicator primed with a small spray of Z6. It applied very easily and smooothly.

I applied the P21S the same way using a fresh applicator.

I allowed both products to sit for 5 minutes (I did this during my lunch break at work, so I didn't have time to let it sit).

The Sonüs was very easy to remove and left no oils on the paint when I buffed it off. I can't say the same for the P21S, I had to buff quite a while to get it all off the paint.

The end result was a bit surprising. The P21S side was a bit darker than the Sonüs side, but the clarity of the reflection in the Sonüs side was better (not a lot, but it was more clear).

The Sonüs did a better job at hiding the mior paint flaws than the P21S, and it was smoother to the touch.

I am going to rerun this test on my mom's black Trailblazer when I get a chance. Black should give be a lot easier to see the differences than my blue truck.

Also, I have found that the P21S works wonders on scratched plastic Jeep Wrangler windows. I am going to try both products side by side on my friends Wrangler tomorrow at work and get pictures of the outcome.

All in all I am very pleased by the Sonüs, but I didn't think the differences were going to be this noticable. I think I may have found a new paint cleanser!

Nice review Boeman, with enough detail to help the reader make his/her own mind up. Please keep em coming, with so many products available today I like the idea of head to head reviews, in helping readers make decisions on which products to try next.

Thanks again!

Why would one use these products instead of FPII or another fine polish? These are both purely chemical, right?

Would you use them to strip a sealant or wax off non-swirled paint to get it ready for a new coat?

I ask because I bought the P21S to try on my Caddy repaint's clearcoat that has been cleanerwaxed over lots of shop fallout. I also bought FPII in case it didn't work?

Did I goof?

I use the products to strip polishes, waxes and contaminants off the paint before I use a sealant. I'm not sure it will strip a sealant, maybe someone else has some insight into this.

You did buy the right product, I think you'll be pleased with the outcome!

So no real polishing efforts? I knew the products could be used by hand, but had no idea that they would work by applying them like you would a wax (apply, let haze, then buff off). Very interesting review, thanks! :up Also, this might be obvious, but the most likely reason the P21S made the paint darker and it being harder to remove are from the very same thing. Oils in the cleaner. Oils will darken the paint, and the fact that you didn't *polish* the product in, didn't allow the oils to break down like they normally would. I don't know if I perticularly like the fact that there are oils in the P21S. It's supposed to be a cleaner that removes that sort of thing, not leave it on there. Just think if you immediately followed P21S with a sealant like SG. I'm willing to be that you would have some bonding issues there. All in all, great review and I am also liking the new Sonus product VERY much. :xyxthumbs

I really can't say for sure that it was oils, but it sure looked like it was!

I am very pleased with both of these products, but I think the Sonüs will be my go to product!
