Some Do's and Dont's for Quick Detailing!

i think most of that stuff is in the free part of the"basic' download though....but i'm glad to see someone else noticed it...i used to go there time to time....for the basics when i though i was messing something up...........:D

Quick Detail Sprays came out on the market about 10-12 years ago. I can remember seeing Meguiars Quik Detailer Spray in the auto parts store... "Keep your car looking sharp every day!"

WOW! I read every word on the bottle! Bought it and immediately went out and started cleaning my FILTHY car! :banghead: Oooops.

Well..........Live and Learn!

Do's:

1. Before you start, Make sure the car isn't very dirty
2. Use a very soft microfiber towel ... not necessarily thick, but soft so it won't scratch
3. Work from the top down
4. Use plenty of QD spray... that's what provides your lube and protection
5. Spray directly on the paint, then wipe in long strokes using very light pressure.
6. Take only a couple passes before re-folding the towel to a clean surface.
7. When the microfiber towel is dirty, get a fresh one... MF towels are cheap!
8. I emphasize LIGHT PRESSURE ONLY.
9. QD after washing and drying to add a little slickness to the paint and to remove minor water spots.
10. Always do lower panels and wheels last
11. QD works MUCH BETTER if the vehicle is well maintained with sealant and/or wax!!!
12. Important: If in doubt... wash or ONR wash!

DONT'S!

1. Don't QD if the car needs to be washed! Go Wash it!!!
2. Do not apply QD spray in direct sunlight
3. Never "Scrub" your MF into the paint. You're SANDING it!
4. Don't substitute QD for a carwash (didn't I already say that?)

There are some purists who will tell you to NEVER use a QD spray on anything but a fresh washed car. I respect their opinions!

If you have more QD'ing tips... please join in and add to the list!

I dont really QD at all, I am just too busy and after three or four days my truck needs a wash anyway.

Meguiars came out with their first QD in 1981, it was called Trigger Wash.

Great hints Luster.

One that I would add is that you should wipe the horizontal panels from front to back and the verticle panels up and down. This way if you cause any marring it will be in one direction and only visible from one angle. I remember first reading about this 4-5 years ago from a guy named Zane O(liver) on the Corvette forum, and it has always made great sense.

I will only use a QD after a complete wash, then again I drive a black car.

Good post, I get so tired trying to explain to customers that just because they bought a good QD doesnt mean they can literally wash their car with it.

90% of the "walk-in-off-the-street-customers" who buy QD's from the auto parts store think that way!!! :banghead:

I thought that way the first time I used it!!! Learned the hard way!:scared::huh:

Exactly my experience.

I remember when QD's started coming on the market, I thought, "Great, I'll NEVER have to wash my car again!" Oops!:out:

I try to get my customers to embrace the ONR idea for cleaning up a dusty car; I give new customers a small bottle of it and instructions on how to use it. Unfortunately, it's hard for some of them to let go of their Cali duster/QD habits.
