In a very simple way too--traded the Onyx Black '02 Avalanche for a new Summit White '04 Suburban! Having all 3 cars be white is just a dream come true to a detailing fanatic short on time!

Miss the black shimmer when it was really done right, but don't miss anything else about it!

As most people discover, black is not for the faint of heart. ;)

I have 3 black ( also 2 red and 1 silver) and lack of time could present a problem for proper detailing.

Congrats on the new truck!!! :wavey

You can see the old truck in the back. Only took about 2 weeks, but we already know who bought it. It's someone who lives at the golf course my dad works at and who has a garage (we never did) but they seem to use it for storing junk and not their cars.

Oh well, I hope they keep it as nice as I did!

On a similar note, last weekend when I went down to check if it had sold yet, I was shocked at how much better condition its paint was in when compared to some of their new black cars! Holy crap, I'm just glad we didn't buy a black car from them--one new black Suburban they had was covered in baked-on purple bird crap, scratched, and had swirls like it was buffed with a sand-covered pad. I just can't believe how bad some dealers are at detailing--as an example, even though pure white, our Suburban came to us already visibly swirled up. Morons!

Dealer detail?? Does that even exist? I let them "detail" one of my vehicles once, never again. It took me two days of polishing to get out all the swirls they put in it. I've seen what they do, first (assuming it's even done by hand) they use the same bucket and SPONGE on every car over and over and over. Then they dry your car with those red or blue shop towels, not even at least terry cloth! And that's about it. I don't even think they have ever heard of wax before, let alone microfiber or sheepskin. Ever since then, whenever they ask if I would like my car cleaned up, I tell them no thanks, no swirls for me today.

Tell me about it! The other Chevy dealer near here does some really interesting cleaning jobs too. I went over there early in the morning a couple of times to check out a few new cars before they opened, and the "detailing" department was the only thing opened, with a few new cars that had just been bought sitting outside waiting for their scratches, while both a girl and a guy were in the garage with a big bucket, a hose, and one of those big wash brushes that looks more like an industrial broom, just running it all over each car really quick and hosing it off.

That alone explained the condition of so many of their new cars on the lot...

I can relate. I have a black Mustang and when I was looking for a Navigator I was trying to find a matching black Navigator.

I settled for this and have ben happy ever since. Black is nice when clean, polished and waxed, but it's a bear to keep up. Something the size of a large suv would have driven me crazy.

:D

We just bought a new Pathfinder. It was either black or silver. Daily driver, parked outside 24/7, New Yprk winters. Yeah..you guessed it..silver!! No regrets. :D
