Sold My $700 Special

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
As some of you know I brought a 540i BMW so I sold my 94 Sentra that I paid $700 for back in June......I did some cosmetic work on it new tires and really clean the heck out of it....Everything worked on the car except the clutch needs to be replaced....it runs OK as long as you are not dropping it hard or really stepping on the gas....Anywho I listed it at $2000. thinking that the clutch was going to be $500 that was to estimates that I got...Guy shows up wanting it for his daughter that had just turned 16.....I tell him everything that I had done to the car including the $500 for the clutch thinking that he was going to ask for the off....comes back form the test ride and offers me $1800.....I couldn't find the registration fast enough!

Really goes to show you that cleaning the car up really good helped in selling this car and honesty was the next....you can never guess what the buyer is thinking!

Yeah it's funny how you can put a little TLC into a car and make the value double. Thats not a bad starter car for sure. I'm sure she will be pleased with it. Great job!

Congratulations, Dave!!

I know the "clean-up" paid off!! & now you have a nice black toy maintain :D

How much were the tires with mounting, balancing, etc... How much did you put into the car $$$ wise for repairs, fixing up, etc...?

That's a good point...

Oil Change, transfer and registration, smog, tires, floor mats, steering wheel cover, hub caps mics bulbs and one inside rheostat was all about $375.....I know the manger of the local Les Schwab so I get killer deals on tires and rims....The rest was time that I put in for cleaning

$1800 selling price - $700 purchase price - $375 invested = $725 profit

That's some nice pocket change

The way that I listed this car was for 2K and then told everyone that looked at the car the clutch was $500 to fix thinking that I would have to give that back and settle for $1500 and I was good with that.....when he came back in and offered me $1800 I about fell over....as I said this was a real clean ride and with the clutch fixed you had one heck of a good little car....had it been a pickup I would have not sold it....that's my next project is looking for one of those.

Sweet!! If you know what you're looking for, this actually makes a good side hobby; buy a cheap-o car that has minor mechanical stuff wrong with it, and can be cosmetically restored to a satisfactory level, and you've got quite a money maker that should sell rather quickly!

I'm working on a 85 325i black BMW for a buddy it was $500 in real decent shape body and inside...has 230K miles but has been well maintained...The inside looks almost new again...He put in a dash cap on it and that really helped, I finishe the inside and it came out looking like a million bucks.....I took off the pin stripe and have just started to do the outside....this car could sell for 2K very easy once I'm done...I'm keeping my eye out for another project car to make some cash on the side
