Sodium chloride pain in my hide...

Well alot of snow got dumped on my baby here in NJ. The roads have tons of salt and sand on them. So heres my questions:

1) Should I be taking my car to a do it yourself place and maybe spraying it down when it creeps above freezing now and then, maybe even spray it with their soap and then rinse but no aggitation such as using a mitt like I would when hand washing?

2) I worry about rust, I own a honda civic. As far as the underbody goes, wheel wells, suspension, etc. what should I be doing? Try and spray these areas down with some soap and water while in the wash bay?

Just so I get some more info on this, my car has about 5-6 layers of klasse on the paint and the trim was protected as well with black again I think its called. I take good care of the paint but I worry about what I cant see. Thanks guys.

A run through the wand wash wouldn't hurt. The presure guns so a good job of rinsing under the car. I would do it on a warner or at least sunny day to give everything a good chance to dry off.

I just took my car ( also a few layers of SG) to the self service bay during lunch. I rinse well, spray their soap, rinse some more. I then fill my bucket with their rinse water, more than normal amount of my own shampoo and use two mits to wash ( I dropped one on the horrible messy ground so it was just one today)

I then use final deatail and it looks stunning. I know it will look horrible tonight after the ride home but for now I can stare outside my office all afternoon and it gave me a great deal of satisfaction.

I think that a hard spray in some areas is not advised, it only pushes the salt further into the crevises, just rinse rinse rinse. I cant stand salty crevices.

This weekend will give use all a chance to catch up, I plan on putting a coat of S100 on saturday, it will be a balmy 39!

Good Luck

Run it through the touchless wash or a wand self serve. One thing we do around here is wash the cars when it gets Below Freezing. The further below freezing, the better. We find that most car washes are open up to about 15 below zero. At about 0 or 10 below your car stays really clean. Too cold for anything to stick to it, and nothing melts. You southern state guys really have it rough!
