Now that I have a foam gun I’m wondering what soap most people are using for their foam guns (large quantities, cheap price)?

I am also looking for a soap that cuts through the winter grime well as I found myself basically scrubbing the paint like a dirty pan (I don’t want to be doing that next winter now my paint is scratch free). I’ve been reading that the citrus soaps excel at dealing with winter grime, any recommendations are appreciated!

Car soaps that I’ve used, rated on 10 scale:
  • Mothers - California Gold Car Wash (7/10)
  • Chemical Guys - Mr. Pink (7/10)
  • Chemical Guys - Wash and Wax (8/10)
  • Meguiar's - Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner (8/10)
  • Turtle Wax - Zip Wax Liquid Car Wash and Wax (2/10)

Recomended by autopians:
  • 3D - Pink Car Soap
  • Adams - Wash Wax Shampoo
  • Chemical Guys - Citrus Wash and Gloss
  • Griot's Garage - Car Wash
  • Meguiar's - Hyper wash
 
Adam's car shampoo isn't too expensive, foams very well, and is very concentrated. I only need 1 oz of it in my foam gun.

ONE OF MY FAV. WASHES! It just works. Period.

Just finished up a gallon of CG MAXI SUDS this morning. Really cant fault it. Good all around soap.

Looking foward to using DP POWER WASH & WAX soap. This is next and ready to go. Read good things on this one.

But for price and performance, MEGS HYPER WASH wins it.
 
OK, so I'm going to try Meg's D110 and CG CW&G...

I'll definitely put Adams Shampoo on the list for when I run out of D110/CW&G as it's available in Canada (unlike most products I have to import)

You might want to take a look at 3D/HD Pink Car Soap--great price--available in gallons and 5 gallons--lots of foam and it leaves nothing behind.
 
I used cheap shampoos for many years before I wised up and switched to ones with great lubricity and encapsulation, and some of those better shampoos also cleaned better. The results amazed me- far, *FAR* less wash-induced marring (this was before I switched to my foamgun-centric wash technique).

I use Griot's Car Wash and HD Pink Car Soap, mixed as follows- ~3.5oz. GG : 3oz. HD : enough water to make a gallon. I fill the foamguns with that and also use that concentrate to clean wheels/wells/undercarriage.

Other shampoos I'm OK with (some from first-hand experience, others based on what people I respect tell me): Meguiar's M62 (ONLY Meguiar's shampoo I find OK, I sometimes use it for wells/undercarriages), Optimum, DuraGloss, and Ultima which I hear is the *BEST* stuff on the market.
 
Well I looked them up and the costs to buy them from Canadian retailers and the best I could find are as follows:

Adams - Wash Wax Shampoo - $57.79 +18.50 shipping (1 Gallon)
Chemical Guys - Citrus Wash and Gloss - $28.73 +free shipping (1 Gallon)
Meguiar's - Hyper wash - $55.07+$20.00 shipping (1 Gallon)

This only leaves me with one affordable brand. Looks like I'll be getting more Chemical Guys stuff.
 
4u2nvinmtl- Those prices seem awfully high (and I'm generally not too price-sensitive). Buy enough gallons of Griot's and you'll get free shipping (hey, it never goes bad so buy in bulk). When HD has a sale (or even the everyday price at Autoality) a 5 gallon bucket of the Pink Soap is awfully cheap.


I buy several gallons of Griot's at a time, and the HD in the 5 gallon bucket- that's two orders of shampoo that'll last me for ages and at a very reasonable (at least to me) overall cost.


IMO you oughta look into options like those before you order.
 
For grime I would go with Auto Finesse Avalanche in a foam cannon or gun. I use it in both and it does really well at removing grime. It should help you in the winter months up in Montreal. For maintenance I prefer Optimum Car Wash soap. A capful is enough for a two bucket and it's reasonable.

I have used Mr. Pink and I prefer it over the other Chemical Guys soaps I've tried. I'm not a huge fan of Chemical Guys stuff so take it with a grain of salt.

Hmm.... I tried and entire bottle of Mr Pink and wasn't impressed with it. The suds were slick but I didn't think it cleaned very well at all. i thought DG902 was a better offering.

Yeah, unfortunately it's the same story with 3D and GG (can't find 3D on any of the Canadian Detailing suppliers). At least I got a good reason for another NY road trip LOL.

Mr. Pink is already on the list of products I own (gave it 7 on 10). It's good, but I preferred the CG Wash +wax (same cleaning power, better smell, and the wax is a plus I guess).

Have you tried Chemical Guys - Citrus Wash and Gloss? I'm interested to see how it compares because I found their other soaps just lacked in cleaning power everything else was perfect and now that it's summer I don't need the cleaning power.
