so i was reading in the "how to" section on claying a car since ive never done this it before (thank you for the how to section). it said you could use wash soap or a quick detail product. is one method of lubbing the clay better than the other? thanks

well wouldnt you know in the Q&A section my question was covered..but what are your experiences?

Soap with distilled water is probably a more economical solution and it'll provide great lubricity assuming you added enough soap to the water.

With some clays (e.g., Sonus Ultra-fine), I like using the matching lube (e.g., Glyde) the best. Some shampoos do compromise some clays.

Certain clay/QD combos seem to results in less-than-optimal clay performance...I suspect that the QDs' wax/etc. content renders the clay less effective. The Griot's clay system is a good example- the clay is OK, the SpeedShine QD is OK too, but used together it makes for a very mild clayjob and I suspect it's because of all the wax in the SpeedShine. Not that that is always a bad thing, but it's not what I'd want for dealing with heavy contamination.
