I found 2 scratches on the outside of my passenger window. I can put my fingernail in them. How do you repair glass scratches that you can put your fingernail in?



Please help- I'm so upset right now. I think someone may have run their key on it

You may want to try a windshield repair company, but I'm not entirely sure that they can fix scratches like that. I'm sure you can probably find a company that will come to you, as well.

Unless you have access to something like this, you are stuck with the scratches.

Replacement of just "living with it" is probably the only option. Sorry.

Sorry if I'm way off base here, but for scratches deep enough to "put your fingernail in" I'd call or bring it to a professional. :bolt

I'm starting to think someone at work tried to be nice and used a ice scraper on my passenger window and stopped b/c I remember walking to my car and 2 windows were cleaned.



Yes I can put my fingernail in the scratch. It is a little deeper than the pics from the attached link. I appreciate the help so far. I'm debating on trying to fix this with the method above or take it to a glass shop.



I will probably contact glass shop for estimate first and see what the they have to say.



Anybody have any luck removing a deep scratch in glass? I'm not talking the type from wiper blades.

Update: I contacted a few glass repair companies and they won't work on passenger windows as they say the glass is too thin. They want $167 to replace the window.



Is it worth buying the kit mentioned above and trying to fix it myself. That link showed someone had great luck with that kit, but on the windshield.



The two scratches I can lightly notch my fingernail into so i think it could still be saved. Anybody had any luck removing deep scratches in the side windows?



I'm really looking for some direction before I buy the kit or chunk out the money for a new window.

I'd replace the glass. A repair will never be as "good as new".

I would replace the glass as well. Glass can be kind of finicky and difficult to work with.

Well I took a shot at it and had pretty good results I can live with. I did a light detail clean up this past weekend after all the weather lately.



I decided to start with IP and an orange 4 inch pad with my pc. I was suprised to see that I was having a little luck with this. I decided to move up to a 4 inch yellow pad and Power Gloss and after 3 passes the deep marks are almost completely gone. I can ever so slightly nick the scratches with my finger and the glass came out great! I didn't follow up with anything and checked my work after each pass.



Thought I would pass this along. I should have taken before and afters. Again its not perfect but I can live with this!
