NEW YORK, June 29 (Reuters) - The Chrysler division of DaimlerChrysler AG (DCXGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) is expected to announce on Friday a new Dodge Challenger coupe styled and named after the automaker's 1970s muscle car, The Wall Street Journal said.

The V8-powered Challenger won't be sold until next year, but Chrysler will promote the car this summer to try to pull customers into showrooms, the newspaper said, citing people familiar with the company's plans.

Chrysler's announcement of the new Challenger tommorow at a Nascar race in Daytona Beach, Florida, was moved forward by several months in hopes it will create some buzz for the automaker, the newspaper's sources said.

I hope it takes off better then the Charger and GTO.......

yes finally , I've been waiting to hear this since I saw the concept. This is going to be my personal weekend car, I want it in the old green with black hemi stripes.

I think that there are may people who really like both designs...and I think that if GM gets their act together, follows suit with Chrysler and releases the Camaro concept, that there will be some great new rivals on the road, and competition at the track :)

Im curious to what the starting price will be.......................Im sold.

And who said 40 was over the hill...........

aka partick , the pricing rumurs have the challenger on par with the current mustang , an entry level v6 starting at under $20k and the top of the line Hemi SRT being just shy of $40k

All sounds good to me , sign me up for a lime green Hemi!

The Challenger is going to be one tough and desirable ride (well the SRT version at least).

You lucky North Americans :aww: I wish we could get it here in OZ.

Looks decent for coming from GM......One day they'll spend some $ on a design team and learn how to design........(that should ruffle some feathers)

Let's ruffle them together. Stupid GM and their bean-counters. TAKE THAT! :heelclick

:geez

My brother had a '71 Challenger, he can barely contain himself now, knowing the new one is a year or so away.

Now GM, where is my Chevelle? I mean the real one, not that fugly Malibu. RWD, big V8, great styling, that is what a real Chevelle has.

I had the chance to go out in public with the Challenger back in April with my friends from Chrysler. The car was driven on the streets of So. Cal. The responce from the crowd was unreal.
