SIO - Tough as Nails

Wow. Those SIO2 spray on are tough as nails…..
This winter alone, I’ve read of 3 seperatate instances where it appeared the end user had applied it wrong – aka, on a panel that was not as clean as it should, and the spray&wash sealants locked in the road film if not some dirt.

I’ve never really used this stuff for paint myself until late this year. I have been used Hydr02 as my wheel sealer since it’s inception, and it’s been a godsend.

I had a car I knew I was going to polish out so I decided to see what ill effects it would be on using Spray Sealant’s wrong. The day was overcast with clouds, mild 40’s, was ~outdoors~ for a short bit as the wife did some errands. Washed it & then sprayed/rinsed it. Noticed the side that was theoretically facing the sun (even though it was cloudy and grim) was HydroStreaked. The other side of the car was fine, vis-vis – same diluted bottled of 1:6.

APC wash 1:4.
Did not faze the streaks post review after rinse

Decided to APC wash again
APC wash 1:4 round 2.
Did not faze the streaks

Pulled it back into the garage.
Blew dried.
Sprayaway glass scrubbing with MF got the Hydro Streaks in the Glass.
Onto the paint. Reload got about 50% of the streaks on the panels, and the other 50 would not budge…

The test was to see how one would one remove said spray/rinse sealants when ~fresh and semi uncured~ and I gotta say, it’s tough sh1$. Me wonders, if for this particular reason or not, said Manuf. Rep did not respond on any advice at all when the ^^ above posters had asked for help re: the streaking and wrong application.

I guess wax/sealant goes full round circle.
Instead of good old fashioned nuba getting white and rock hard that one needs to chisel off, wrong application of these spray&rinse sealant`s will lead you down the right of a light cleaner polish to remove.

I believe that`s why they try to push clean polished prepped paint. Although it almost seems silly to do all that work and then just use this lazy spray.

They are tough though no doubt I have been having fun with them for a several months. Hydro2 got me hooked then tried another brand

Clean Polish prepped paint is more for a coating...coatings are different than the spray/rinse that is being discussed in the OP.

Really was quite surprised that back2back APC wash did not even faze it...was even more surprised that post APC rinses, window cleaner and some mild *scrubbing* with a MF removed it all on the glass....

I feel for thoe owners I read that applied it on dirty panels and or incorrect dwell time....it must suck to either live with it till it wears or really go to town on polishing when they weren`t planning to.

I DO think if stuff like this hits the consumer market (aka, available at the big boxes), either it must be foolproof and or it can just be like nuba wax, and when you don`t RTFM, you will be in for a surprise

Did not try IronX - as to me, it`s a chemical meant to dissolve iron (thioglycolic). Not planning on ever doing this test again.

Double APC washes did not even make a dent on the Hydrosmear on the glass...Interestingly enough, after the car was fully blown dried, Sprayaway with some *scrubbing* did remove it. Go figure.

Sprayaway glass cleaner is my go to clay lube for severe physical decontamination on neglected paint, the combo leaves marring, but I have not found anything else that cleans the paint as well as Sprayaway and clay.
