I am getting a 1989 white mini that does not have clearcoat. The paint is in good order but lacks any real shine

anything especially good on plain paint?

I would just go with something mild by hand first. Maybe DC#2 or VM although I'd personally prefer a pure polish, then see how it goes from there. Unless you're pretty sure that the paint will take an 'attack' from #80 with a PC. Are there any defects, or is it just lacking shine?

Single stage white is about as hard as paint gets. You probably can't do any real marring correction without a rotary, and even then it can be problematic. I sure wouldn't hesitate to try #80 by PC, but I wouldn't expect any miracles from it either. If you watch any "thin spots" such as ridge lines, corners, etc. the #80 should be fine. Then use a "pure polish" such as the DC#2 or the #3. Then top with wax.

OK,I'll ask. The "Secet Decoder Ring" tells me that DC is a digital camers.

What's DC 1/2/3? And why is it the answer?

Thanks.

Dave, I have the same problem with a couple of Toyotas with the same dull s/s white paint.

Yes, its VERY hard paint. It laughs at most polishes with a PC. S/S white has titanium dioxide as its pigment...enough said!

I had success removing oxidation with a chemical cleaner. I'd make several passes with something like Mothers Pre-wax Cleaner or Megs DC#1, then finish with AIO and a LSP.

The Cressida I worked on went from chalk to mirror! :D

Removing scratches is another story, on white s/s. :(
