simple wax/paint sealants questions

hello everyone,
I started detailing cars when i was back in high school but have not done it in a while and want to get back into it. I was just curious of people opinions. I have a 2004 ford explorer black that i just clayed to get all the specs and dirt out of the paint. Do most people prefer to use a coat of paste wax, spray wax, or paint sealants. Please let me know what you think and what the positive and negatives of each consist of. Also what type of each product each of you reccomend

A lot of preference comes into play with your question. Longevity and looks are the primary differences. Sealant, paste wax, spray wax - any or all, in that order.
 
Protecting your ride with a high quality car wax or paint sealant to keep the paint looking at its best is the key in it's life. While the terms wax, spray wax, or sealant are descriptive, they are also generalizations.

There are many different types/brands of waxes, sealants, etc.

What is likely going to benefit your paint the most, given it's age, is going to be an all in one product that is going to lightly polish and clean the paint as well as adding protection. After you apply the all in one product, you can top with with a compatible product for more gloss and shine.

I would start with BLACKFIRE Total Polish & Seal

And top with BLACKFIRE Crystal Seal

Welcome! You will find lots of useful information here. A couple of days of reading and you will be in the know.

Todd's recommendations are superb. He has a way of evaluating a person and their post in order to give them the best recommendation based on their amount of time, money, and expectations. Follow his recommendations and you will not go wrong!

GREAT that you clayed. Definitely use a product with some cleaner and polish before your final sealant or wax.

I think you need to explain your needs: easy to apply, nice smell, maximum appearance with multiple steps, best look with just one step, something you can apply only every 6 months, etc.

For example, I like sealants and then use a spray topper for maintaining the look if you like the bright shiny look sealants can give.

If you want a deeper wetter glow, then you may prefer carnuabas.
 
I use exactly what Todd recommended with the BF poly spray for after wash, It is an incredible look. I'm not a professional and the time spent vs durable gloss produced makes it a perfect choice for me on both my cars, and a few friends too.

Since you've been out of school for a while how about a refresher class!! :lol2:

Always stick to the basics. Whether you choose to perform every aspect is entirely up to you.

Basic steps in order are:

  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Paint Correction & Polish
  • Seal
  • Wax
Once you've finished claying is the idea time to do a little paint correction or at the very least use a quality paint cleaner to remove oxidation, grime or other surface defects.

Car polishing before waxing is the trick behind attaining and maintaining that sought after showroom finish on your car. The preeration prior to applying a sealant and wax is paramount to success.....

Don't forget the BF All Purpose Paint Protection, BF Midnight sun Carnauba wax, then top with the Poly Sray or the Crysal Seal !!
