Simple question about claybars

Hi all.
In another site I have mentioned that according to Autopia's description of their detailing claybars,it does remove oxidation on paint surface,Am I wrong?does claying paint remove oxidation?

clay can not remove oxidation only surface contaminates ;)
 
I've clayed many clear and non-clear coated cars and have never seen paint transfer only dirt ...:notme:..besides..the lubricant whether it be soap or QD would never let you work that far into a finish ;)

I would agree minus the oxidation and the surface rust would have to be really very very light. :cool:

and ps ..it's not a secret :lol2:
 
Surface rust is better treated with Poorboy's ProPolish or equivalent.
Oxidization comes off relatively easy with polish. Keeping it away is tough. I've had a 4 week return on a $200 polish job before.

If its SS paint use a sealant on it..helps to keep the finish up longer

I typically do, but repaints are notoriously bad for re-oxidization. I could be totally wrong, but in my observation:
-ss whites oxidize and hold well after clean up on the sides, but will return on the hood-trunk-roof after a few months even when sealed
-blue and green repaints when they oxidize are tough to keep shiny
-reds and the red family hold well

What's your (plural) experience?

it really has to do with the quality of the work and materials ...some body shops will just scuff the surface and then repaint ..others will sand it down to the original primer and do it the right way ..mileage will vary as to longevity of the shine and how well products will work to preserve it :) ...color really shouldn't matter ;)

You can take some WS of the surface with clay but as Steve stated generally not...for what you are looking to do, a good chemical polish, or paint cleaner...would be the choice...however if they are etched in the clear, then some wet sanding might be in order
