Silent Auction Display

That'll buff right out!
On June 7th I have two good promotional opportunites to promote my shop.

I'm looking for tasteful, professional, and clever ideas to generate interest in my detailing shop.

First, I'll be donating a $225 complete detail to a professional theater's annual blacktie fundraiser. 600 hundred VIPs, very sophisticated, etc. I assume I'll have a small table space, with room for price list/biz cards/pictures... by definition, the silent auction means that my display must speak for itself... so I'm begging for help

Second, local Corvette Show; 100 cars on display at Penske dealership... again, I'll offer (they say they'll raffle) a $225 complete detail. I'm thinkin I could have a canopy, table, banner, girl(s) and a 'perfect shine' display...

Any and all thoughts will be appreciated. I won't be actually selling anything at either of these events, but I hope the visibility will help expand awareness of the shop...

That's a tough one. Are you getting anything out of this deal other than the "supposed" opportunity to build a relationship with the person who gets your gift certificate? At the corvette show you say you have the ability the set up a display and interact with the people there - that sounds like a good opportunity. I have been doing these types of deals for almost 10 years and have almost always came up with nothing out of it. I only give gift certificates to charities that I personally support (I get calls from every charity under the sun) and I never give a complete detail away. I usually give a series of small gift certicates (say $25.00) and at least that way 4 or 5 different people are exposed to the business rather than just 1. Also, when the customer comes in you can put the money towards a bigger package which may at least cover your costs for the job. Also, I always put an expiry date of no longer than 6 months on the certificate so the person will actually use it and it won't just get shoved in a drawer. I am also planning a charity detail day for late summer in conjunction with a friend of mine's bar in support of The Canadian Cancer Society. We will have all the radio and tv stations cover the event which gives my business and the bar positive exposure and will hopefully raise a couple of thousand bucks for cancer research.

Best of Luck on your endeavor...

I'm guesing that your overall response is corrrect...

But it is valuable.
