Here is a 1999 Solara that I last detailed in April. As you can see, not waxing for 8 months is hard on a car. Seemed mostly to be drying streaks from the local car wash.

This is after using Meguiars Swirl Free Polish:

And after following with Poorboys PwC:

I took one after applying Poorboy's EX, but the angle of the sun had changed so there was no way to really compare the pics.

Here is a shot of the whole car:

Here is an LX 450 that I cleaned today. He just wanted a quickie since he is selling it and has someone coming out to look at it tomorrow (12/10). He just wanted a one step product so it would have more shine and feel slick. I used Vanilla Moose as the one step, since my own experience is that it has a couple months durability.

BTW, it was in the low 40s with 20-35 mph northwest winds while I cleaned this LX!

This Tundra was polished with PwC and topped with EX about 6 weeks ago (10/28) and today, I just QEW washed it and went over it with 4 Star Shine QD. Even before QDing, the paint felt very slick and was beading nicely. 4 Star DQ did seem to add some gloss and went on and off easily with no streaking.

Here is a 1996 E320 that I have been washing/waxing since it was brand new (the owner has been a customer since summer, 1994!). I've never had to do more on the inside other than vacuum and wipe down the seats and console with a damp towel. The interior is absolutely immaculate! Like usual, very little interior attention but it did need to be waxed. I used Poorboy's PwC and EX.

BTW, notice the shine on my own car-same combo as the E320 but also with PBs Natty Paste Wax...applied about 4 weeks prior! ;)

 I forgot! I also polished with Meguiars Swirl Free on the E320. It had been since April since I'd last waxed it and it had some spider/drying swirls.

Hey scott, how do you clean the interior carpets? Whats your process? I was reading that you used the wollite 6:1 but how do you apply it?

If the interior is really dirty, I use Magnum's Upholstry Shampoo, mixed about 8:1 or so. Spray on, scrub, wet vac, wipe down, mist with plain water, wet vac, wipe dry.

Works even on nasty interiors:

:shocked holy smokes scott, that is absolutly amazing. What size and power is your wet vac, very very nice! P.S. (wipe down with a terry or a cheap towell???)

I've got one of those rectangular Sears Craftsman wet/dry vacs. Not sure exactly what it is rated at, but it has no problem lifting floor mats up.

Yes, I wipe down with terry cloth towels.

You're right. I'm very tired of seeing your pictures being posted all over this forum. How else are we suppose to post our pictures and have them look aceptable compared to your work. :(

Just kidding.:D

Your pictures are always welcome here and you set the bar for the rest of us to strive for. Your knowledge and expertise has helped me in many ways and every board I go to that deals with autos, I always rave about this guy on Autopia named Scottwax. Keep sending them our way and I personally like to here your testimonials on products that you have tried. You do it a very classy way without putting others down and you are always very complimetary towards others. You have even given me a thumbs up a couple times which I felt very proud of. :xyxthumbs

Tired of seeing your pictures?! Never.

Hot cars perfectly detailed - never get bored with that in a million years and like everyone else says, it gives us all a level to which we want to climb (very long way in my case)

Keep em coming Scottwax!

Sick of pics, no way! As the saying goes, "This thread is worthless without pics!" They complete the detailing story... I live for pics! BTW Great job on those details!:up

When I look outside and see 2 feet of snow and realize that I can't do what you're doing, I HATE seeing your pictures. Low 40s with 20-25mph winds.....pshhhhh.....we have low 20s with 40 mph winds and blowing snows.

In all seriousness though, I love seeing your pics, Scott. I live vicariously through you in the winter time lol!!

Great job, keep 'em coming.

where do you get this magnum stuff? how come you dilute it so much? that powerful?

Magnum Upholstry Shampoo is a product I buy by the gallon from my Meguiars distributer. You can order some by contacting [email protected]

It's concentrated so you just cut it about 8:1 with water.

Scott,

Awesome work!

Solara: Looked like quite the transformation. Question though, on the door moldings, there is a thin white line around them that looks like a polish or wax residue of some sort. I have it on my teg too and have a little trouble getting it off. Any idea what it is?

I did a Solora back in June...A champagne convertible. It was bought brand new and the front/rear bumper covers mismatched sooo bad, it was terrible. The people were friends of mine and bought it in FLA (but I did it in NY). I told them to demand a repaint because it looked like garbage. Detail came out real good, but it didn't hide the different shades.

Tundra: Man that thing is impressive. Stock chrome wheels with the chrome accented grille, running boards, and mirrors. I'm sure the owner was very pleased :)

Benz: I've always loved that car. My friends mom had it and it was built like a tank, but still quick. You say they baby it, well someone will have themselves and awesome car when they decide to get rid of it. The AA on the tires looks really good. I like the gloss level a lot. *runs to the store*

Interior shot: I had one like that once. Family with 3 kids and a Durango RT. Goobers were inbedded in the alcantara (car suede) door inserts. Nail Polish on the alcantara seat inserts. Absolute wreck and my buddy and I got most of it out.

I think after its all said and done... Yeah you're happy because you did nice work (very important) and got paid, but whats the icing on the cake for me is the customer's reaction. If they are thrilled, I am even more thrilled. :D

BTW: Don't stop posting pics. I love seeing different products used to see what works out the best for not only the detailer and owner, but for the Autopian. :D

The car had been in an accident over the summer and the hood, grill and front bumper were replaced. The body shop apparently buffed the whole car (there were light buffer swirls on the front fenders), so the white stuff in the molding was a polishing compound of some sort. I used a mf towel and my finernail to get the residue out before I finished off the car with Poorboy's EX. I didn't get a close up because the sunlight was no longer shining directly on the paint, so the picture wouldn't have been comparable to the other three.

I have to agree that the customer's reaction is very important to my continued satisfaction with detailing professionally. Sure I like the money, but I also like seeing the smiles when someone sees their car right after I've detailed it. It really makes you feel good to know your work is appreciated by the person most directly affected by it. In most lines of work, you don't get to personally see how the customer responds to the service or product.

Scott, the pictures bring tears to my eyes. We never see well-kept cars in my area...no one cares. It's really sad to see how many trashed, hi-end cars there are. It's real discouraging.

Regardless, your work appears 1st Class ++. Keep it up. It's very refreshing to see a perfect car...even if it's only on the internet.

Great work as always Scott, your pictures are one of my favorite things about Autopia!

As for the mismatched bumpers somebody mentioned on a light colored Solara, thats pretty common on certain shades of light color on all Toyota vehicles. It has to do with their paint process and the difference between eurathane and sheetmetal. Repaint would probably turn out the same way.
