Show car prep on a Saleen with Wet Diamond

This car belongs to a guy who does not garage it, and he drives it...and occasionally takes it to the drag strip. He has been invited to a Mustang meet, where Steve Saleen will be, so the car has to look top notch.

Here was my process:
Washed with Meguiar's shampoo in the foam gun, using a rinse bucket for my mit. I then refoamed and clayed. The top was washed with Raggtop cleaner, and I just used regular soap on the wheels.

I polished the exterior with M105, the new Lake Country tangerine colored pad, PCXP using the KBM. The hood and trunk required M86 with the new LC Blue cutting pad, and the KBM. The new pads are nice. It was then sealed with Wet Diamond. I sealed the wheels with DuraGloss 501, and the top with Raggtop protectant.

I also repaired some road rash with touch up paint, and a toothpick.

For the interior, it was vacuumed and wiped down with Optimum Protectant Plus.

Under the hood, I used rags and a Swissvax brush, alont with an ONR/Water mix. All the painted parts under the hood were sealed with Aquawax.

2 days, and about 18 hours went into this.

Afters only (it was raining so garage shots only):

These fins were road rashed...I fixed them

Next...interior and engine...

The owner just called to say that he showed the car Saturday, and it was drizzling the whole time. He was competing in a field of 30 Saleens, of all years. Since it was raining, they didn't even lift the hoods (which he was upset with, since he has the color matched parts, and several upgrades under the hood). He won 2nd out of all of the Saleens, 1st went to a bone stock 2009 model. He was disappointed that it rained, because he felt he could have been first if they had seen under the hood, and could have seen the quality of his paint if it weren't covered in rain.

On the bright side, he said he sat down with Steve Saleen for a long time, and had a nice conversation. Then, Steve signed his battery box and engine...Steve had already signed the dash when the car was at the Saleen shop being built.

That stinks about the show!
