Should I apply a sealant over polish?

Hi, my name is Trisha and I am a newbie to this site. I actually posted on auto geek's forum and got some great answers from the people on that site. I do see on this site however Liquid Glass seems to get more of a discussion and while I know some people think negatively about this product b/c it's an older product, I am in need of some serious help and I can't wait for products to come in the mail as I need to get my car looking decent this weekend.

I own a 2001 white Honda Accord. Apparently from what I've found out, Honda does not clear coat their white cars which stinks! I am not a person who neglects their car and I usually take it to the local car wash to have it waxed 2-3 times per year and I also clean it on a regular basis there as well. I had the car professionally simonized (clayed and everything) a year ago and the paint came back looking a little better than when I brought it to the guy. Actually, in the past year, my car has had very bad streaky looking marks that look like someone took dirt and just rubbed it into the paint. My father has used Nufinish on my car a few times and that seems to work the best. He recently hurt himself so he is not able to do this for me anymore. I took my car to the local car wash about a 2 months ago for a wax. A week later, my car looked streaky and dirty again and when you touch it you can't even tell it was ever waxed. it seems that washing the car does nothing to get rid of this dirt. I feel like I am driving around a filth mobile and I am quite embarassed. This brings me to this weekend.

On Autogeek, I was referred to use Klasse All in One and follow up with Duragloss. Anyway, as I mentioned, I do not have the time to wait for the products. I remembered my father using Liquid Glass on his cars back in the day and they always looked really nice. Anyway, my husband plans on using Mother's Cleaner wax on my car and following up with Liquid Glass. My question is this, since my paint is so terrible and seems to absorb everything and anything, and never had a clearcoat applied to it, should we be putting a sealant over it so the dirt is not able to get into the cars paint. To be honest with you, you'd never even know that my car has been waxed 2 months ago b/c it seems the wax just doesn't seem to stay on my car. It's like it was never applied. Also, if you do recommend something to seal the car with after the Liquid Glass, can you please give me a brand name that I can find in a local store since I don't have too much time to get this completed. I noticed some people use Souveran over Liquid Glass but I don't think they sell this in a local store. i also saw something about Collinite but I am not sure exactly what that is and where I can find it. I only hope that if a sealant is needed, it would adhere to the Liquid Glass. Thanks and I appreciate any info you guys can provide for me.

I would use Duragloss #105 and top that with Aqua Wax #951. You can find this in most major Auto Supply.

Thanks for your input. I appreciate it. I see that Duragloss is available at Napa Auto Care which isn't too far from me. As far as the Liquid Glass, I already purchased this, do you think it would be a waste to try it on my car?

Liquid Glass is pretty decent stuff from what I've read. I'd use Liquid Glass on bare paint not over a cleaner wax. I doubt it will bond correctly over a wax. If you want you can top the LG with Duragloss Aquawax.

I recently found the Duragloss at the local car quest. They actually had to order it for me, it wasn't something they stocked but since they carry Duragloss stuff they had a catalog for me to order from. MAN is aquawax some good stuff! Very slick and brings out a good shine. I usually using Poorboys Spray and Gloss after washes between waxes, the gloss is similar to the aquawax but the DG deffinately had the edge in slickness.

I know Liquid Glass sells their own brand of Precleaner which is meant to be used before the Liquid Glass but I was not able to find the precleaner when I purchased the Liquid Glass Polish. Otherwise, I would use that to preclean the car. My car needs a cleaner wax or precleaner regardless before I put anything on my car b/c the dirt is embedded into the paint. Thanks for the info though.

I have had nothing but great results with Liquid Glass. When I use it I put on several layers and it lasts for a very long time. If you do this make sure you give it a day to cure before you give it another layer. The paint should be clean of all dirt and wax before you use Liquid Glass. If you still need to use a cleaner wax, wash the car with dawn after and then use Liquid Glass.

1)Wash car

2)Cleaner wax

3)Dawn wash

4)Liquid Glass

That’s my 2 cents. Good luck. :welcome

Sorry if I'm totally off-base here but why would you want to dawn wash after using the cleaner wax. Would that not just strip the car of any wax anyways?

Mother's cleaner wax as the name implies is a canauba with chemical cleaners in the carrier. Don't follow any wax with a sealer like Liquid Glass because most often you won't get good surface bonding and the sealer will soon fail (and may negatively affect the wax layer during application). If you're gonna use the LG, use it on sqeaky clean paint only. Pure waxes (those without cleaners) can top a fully cured sealant, but not the other way around.

As soon as you have the opportunity, you need to get some professional products (the kind you have to order) and you'll be better off.

Get a Meguiar's MagnaFoam Block (newest version of claybar) to use in the spring and fall to get the stuck-on stuff of the paint.

Get Optimum No-Rinse so you can easily wash your car anytime it's looking bad and not have the time and hassle of an old-fashioned wash.

Get some Optimum Opti-Seal as a sealant. You just apply it and walk away...no need to spend time removing.

Although this is not a process used by detailing fanatics because most of us like spending hours buffing and polishing, it's certainly an easy process that anyone can do and should produce the results you're after. Keep layering the sealant and it'll build up a very strong protective barrier and keep the car white. You can wash anytime and it takes very little time.

Just my .02

Thank you everyone for giving me your info and suggestions; I really appreciate it. I think we are going to do the following as one of you suggested:

wash car

use precleaner wax

wash car with dawn to remove sealer wax

apply Liquid Glass

That sounds like the best option for me right now since I don't have time to wait for the products in the mail. I will order other products though as suggested and use them the next time.

Thanks again for all your help!

I think Honda does clear coat their white, at least in 2001. My Mom has a 1999 Accord, which is the same as yours, and it's Taffeta White. The car has sat outside in the hot Florida sun, all day, every day, for the past 8 years and it's never been waxed except when new. The car shows no single stage oxidation, whatsoever. I could be wrong but if it single stage, it's the most durable single stage I've ever seen.
