Shop VAC decision...

Hey dudes,

Yesterday I bough a Craftsman 6gallon 2.0HP Wet/Dry Shop Vac for $19.99. I got it cheap because thats the last one they had(display) and its being discontinued. It has pretty god suckin action, but, its way to loud in my IMO. The newer Craftsman seem to be quiter and more powerful. Should I get a better one? They have another 6 gal. Wet-Dry Vac, 2-1/2 hp for $39.99. But I'm thinking more of the 8 gal. Wet-Dry Vac, 3-1/2 hp for $59.99.

Do I keep the one I have and just wear ear plugs or get a quiter/more HP one? Will the 2.5HP be enogh?

Thanks.

P.S. I finally recieved my Klasse order today!!! Weeeeee!! Can't wait!! Also the MFs from tacsar.com seem pretty good... don't feel plush though.

That vac should be fine. With my old Shop-Vac I did wear ear protection, but my new Craftsman is very quiet so I don't need it. The smaller the vac the better it can get into the nooks and crannies, so I'd keep it personally. I have a 6.0HP model and it is way overkill for vacuuming cars, but I use it for other stuff too.

Home Depot sells muffler that is made for Shop Vac. You attach it to the exhaust and it works nicely. I have one and it cost me about 8 bucks. Still kinda loud but not as loud as with nothing on. I say about 25% reduction.

I use alot of shop vacs in my bussiness and I think the 2 horse won't be enough cause when you are vacuming, dirt clogs the filter. Now instead of a 2 horse you got a 1 horse, cause of the dirt going on the filter and from there its get weaker and weaker. There is no way around it. It to diffcult to clean it after every use. You can use the contractor's bag that deverts the dirt into a paper bag, instead of hitting the filter, but you still lose some power but not as bad. Get the most horses you can afford and one of the quiet motors. You won't get it for $20.00. I just got a 6.0 super quiet shop vac and really like it compared to the older noiser ones we have.

Whats the brand did you buy? how many gallons? :nixweiss

All the ones with like 6hp that are craftsman are to big to carrry around.

I have a 1.5hp shop vac, it rocks.

Real men don't care about how loud vac's are ;)

I'd probably try a Euro-pro as seen on TV vac or something if I wanted something more portable and quiter, anyone try them before?

The name is Shop Vac, Walmart has them, Lowes also, it may be a special order. But they will do it. This is the highest horse and lowest gallons they offer at this time

I got an 8 Gallon 6.0 horse. Its just right, the 16 gallons was just too big. You may want to try a 1X1 1 horse-1 Gallon. You just have to clean it often.

I bought this Shop-Vac at Costco for $34.99. I am very happy with it, it has good suction and a lot of tools, great for quick shampooing your carpets.

I have a 6hp, 16gal craftsman, it has the detachable blower that you can use as a leaf blower (or to dry cars)

I didnt think that I would ever need that much power or a 16 gal tank till my washer drain hose in the basment broke! :scared  :scared It took no time at all to fill the 16gal up, and the 6hp really helped get it all up out of the carpet.......

I got that vac too, I passed on Craftsman becuase everything that had more than 3 horses where way too big for me.

C240,

This vac has perfect size and power for car use and it's a wet vac, which is a nice bonus. Recommended buy!

the Shop Vac for 5 $ has way more power and a longer hose dont have to wrestle around trying to get the vac in hard to reach places. I was looking at the one Brad has but it was 70$ and not to mention you still had to buy all the car accessories for it more $$.

Alan,

I have the same vac. Only diff is that mine is 1.25 hp and didn't come with that many accessories. My only complaint is that it tends to tip over rather easy. As far as suction goes, its great.
