Seriously? 3000, Right through?! Wet-sand nightmare...

The Driver

Detailers Workshop
I recently did a 996, a full all out restoration. The car came out flawless minus one spot. I was patching a rock chip, anyways long story short. It came time to level it, using nothing but 3000 grit (Wet/heavily soaked for 40 mins prior) it went right through the clear after about 30 - 40 seconds total of light pressure hand sanding. The patch seemed to be resprayed but still it bothers me that this even happened. I luckily have a friend who is amazing at auto-body an has a shop, It's now being fixed. The owner was absolutely flawed by the results, the car was literally perfect minus a 2 inch spot, I think I was more bothered by it then he was. This incident really makes me wonder though...

Sorry to hear that... I did it on a 996 turbo about a year and a half ago trying a little to hard on scratch. I felt horrible, It really did suck more for me than customer from I could tell. It's already done though and you getting it takin care of. So in the end you'll have a customer for life. Thats how the one I did turned out. He was told me he respected me pointing it out and already having a plan of action to fix it. He brings that car in once a week now.

Damn that sucks. Ive been lucky enough to have never gone through on a clients car. Its happened a time or two on wholesale stuff though. These things happen, and its good to have the insurance and resoarces available to fix it.

Agree'd, the owner is amazing guy. I know he will still be a return customer. He actual cracked a joke, "You wanted the thing so damn shiny you buffed the paint right off!" I couldn't help but laugh.

- Todd, I'm investing in a paint depth gauge very soon! In the mean time, no more wet sanding... unless it's on my own car/till I get a gauge.

MrClean- I feel beyond lucky to have the connects I have in the autobody industry. :bow
