Selling the Max...how much should I ask? (specs inside)

OK I'm getting ready to sell the Maxima. I'll be putting a sign in it tomorrow or soon after.



It's a '95 SE with a 5spd manual transmission.

164,000 miles

CD player

Alloys

PW, PL, Cruise, Pwr mirrors, spoiler, foglights, sunroof, cloth seats, driver's power seat

2 dents as seen below...

Very glossy pearl white paint :)

So how much should I ask? Which car pricing site do you go by? Edmunds? KBB? NADA?



KBB's price is ~$3000 in Good condition, and ~$2500 in Fair condition. I think it falls in between.



Any comments?
 
i always like to look at the 3 you listed and go from there, with the nada holding the most clout for me personally as far as pricing, followed by edmunds and then kbb who seems pretty bad the last year or two. have you thought about seeing if a pdr person can do the door? it may help the sale.
 
I think the extra amount I would get with the door fixed would be similar to the cost of having it done. Believe me, after it happened I was going over the dabate of fixing vs not fixing it SOOO many times.

I can't ask less than zero.
 
Because I didn't file a claim on the damage on the front. And I had a $1000 deductible, so it only cost the insurance Co $1600.

Once the math is done it's going to be cheaper for you to keep the Max for two more years and then get what you want. I'm sure most of us here have had to drive something that we didn't want to for a while. I had a new to me car that was at 99k when I got it and it was a fleet car for a travel agency!!!!!!!
 
I'm sure the Max has a knock sensor so you don't *have* to use the higher grade gas. Have you priced insurance on the cars you're looking at?? You have the Max now and have a pretty good idea what it needs and what it doesn't with whatever you do eventually buy you will have the unknown. It's looking like you wont get the money you think you're going to get for the car when you sell it and are looking at spending 5k for the replacement. I'm guessing that you will have to fork over about 3k out of your pocket after selling the Max. *I* think you will be better served by keeping the car that you're familiar with and buying lower grade gas.

I used regular gas ONCE over the entire time that I've had the car, and I got a check engine light a couple days after I filled up.

The fuel door says "premium fuel is recommended", and I had the car knock once a few months ago. I refilled it with fresh premium gas and the knocking stopped. Ever since I have not even thought twice about putting premium in.



I REALLY hate my dents, and honestly, I'm a bit tired of white. I want a dark color car to practice detailing on. With white, it's so easy to cheat with the swirls and stuff. And the depth and reflections can't even compare to a darker color.
 
Honestly I've made my decision on selling the Max and getting a new car. The only real decision now is to get a ZX2 or a Protege ES. The Protege ES 5spd is very difficult to find in my price range, but ZX2s are quite easy to find the way I want them, and in my price range. My performance exhaust was removed today, and my strut tower brace and CAI will get removed in the next few days. The sign will go in the window soon, and I'll put an ad in the free paper too. AutoTrader is the next option if the car doesn't sell with the free methods.
 
Nah I don't think so. It may be more difficult, but I need to have a car of my own that is a dark color. I'm willing to spend the time making it look near flawless. Scratches/swirls on the roof are inevitable considering I carry a kayak on my car (with foam blocks underneath). Other than that I'll do my best to keep it in excellent condition.

They do make those racks that lock into the rain gutters or somewhere...might be worth looking into.
 
Those racks are pretty expensive, and it just makes washing/drying more complicated. I'll stick with the foam blocks, and wash the roof before I ever put the blocks on the roof. I also use the WalMart "Detailer's Best" blue MFs in any spots where the straps come in contact with the paint.
 
I was looking at the racks online last week when we were talking about kayaks. They're not as expensive as you thought and there are several different types.
