Hello to all, just a quick background, I have zero time behind a DA, and am absolutely a novice to the detail world. I've clay bared one time, and a handful of times i have polished and waxed by hand. I run a paint shop for my employer that reconditions our own equipment/trucks in the winter months. On average i shoot about 10 plus gallons a week of paint, all direct to metal BASF Limco 5 paint. We are not producing show room vehicles, sandblast prep and paint is all we do. Well i have honed in my body and paint skills alittle more as the years go by, and have been asked to help on personal and project vehicles for Friends and supervisors at my work. that being said, i need to get into machine polishing, especially if i plan to wet sand the base coat/clear coat paint jobs I'll be doing. Also, because i want to spruce my own personal vehicles to look the best they can.

I will be buying a Griots Garage polisher kit, as opposed to a PCXP. The warranty alone one me over, not to mentions the recommendations and opinions on many members here on threads i have read. That being said, I want to get a smaller diameter size pads for hard to reach spots....Here go the questions..

1. Do i need to buy different counterweights for lets say a 3" and 4" backing plate. I'd like to get both sizes, pads as well. Looking to buy the Lake Country brand, pads as well. Thats 6 pack seems reasonably priced.

2. Assuming these backing plates and pads fit the GG, do i need to buy and bolt thread adapters.

I know the kit I'll be buying has a polish and a wax, i intend to use these products on a starter paint correction job, but would like to buy some more products. The vehicles I'll be working on are all neglected, for exception of the new paint jobs I'm working on. I have alot of MF towels that i bought from this member many years ago, here. He was from Hawaii, Cant remember what his user name is. Still have some S100, and some misc. Meguirs products in the garage, All over 6 years old. I wonder if these are still okay to use...? Thanks for taking time to read this...

I just got the Griot's 3" polisher just for the reason you posted above. I used to use my Porter Cable 7424 polisher and "finesse" it into some of the tighter spots, others I did by hand. The Griot's 3" PC will make my life a little easier.
