Sealants and You:D

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
I have used sealants for many years..some have been better than others.

I want to see who is using what and what you like about it.

To date I've used

PB...EX and EXP
Four Star
WG..HG
P&S

The one that I liked the most was WG its a super high gloss sealant, but the cost is pretty expensive.

The one that I go to is PB EXP...easy to work with and good gloss.

Four Star...another one that I would rate with WG

P&S was so..so seems like it needed another LSP

What I want to accomplish with this is to find a sealant that I can use on dark colored cars.

I've used FS UPP and Optimum OS with great success on dark and light colored vehicles. I have some other sealants I haven't tried yet.

I use PB'S EX-P the most often. On both dark and light cars it gives the look I like the best. Also it's very easy on and off.
UPP is my 2nd favorite. It ranks with PB but there is the cost factor.
The Wolfer's sealant imo mutes the flake in my metallic paints. So therefore I do not use this prod. too often.
Menzerna's FMJ is also too expensive. It wasn't that easy to remove.
Klasse's HGSG was a bear to get off even though I did like the outcome.I used this prod. before the wowo method became popular. By then I was hooked on the other sealants.
I have a bottle of PB's EX that is over 3 yrs. old that I still have to try.:D.:passout:

Right now if I had to choose a sealant, it would probably be 4* UPP. However, I've been using Collinite for everything from my lawn tractor to my boat.

I like EX on dark colored cars.

I like it for darker colored paints as well. It does mute flake, however. UPP looks good as well but, as already noted, it mutes metalflake. Would mention that my UPP experience is with the pre polycharged version.

For those paints with metalflake paint I have been using EX-P regularly (but not exlusively :)). Just this past weekend I was cleaning up the Wife's ride, a VW NB TS coated in Reflex Silver (read lots-n-lots 'o flake). I got off to a late start and spent a little too much time on the interior so after a wash and spot clay I was up against the impending darkness. A separate polish step was out of the question, but I wanted that extra gloss so I grabbed my bottle of PwS (I'm not certain which version :dunno:) the PC and a blue pad and proceeded to buff my way around. After wiping off the haze, I picked up the DG AW and went over the entire vehicle again to catch any remaining residue. It was too dark to see what the results were, and I was too tired (or lazy) to bring out the light stand for inspection. The morning light confirmed my efforts. The paint "glowed" and there was no noticeable flake muting. By that evening the surface had a nice amount of slickness to it. I don't know if I compromised or enhanced the PwS's durability or appearance, but it looks darned good.

BB, I notice that you haven't tried the 101 or 105 DG sealants (I haven't either). They do seem to receive good reviews. Might be worth trying. Additionally, I know you are looking at sealants, but IMO carnauba waxes sure do look good on the red and black paints.

I like DG 111 it leaves a nice wet look even on white. Zaino is great as well, layerin with ZFX is nice just do not like that I always have some waisted product left over.

CG Jet Seal 109 is my favorite. It works equally good on all colors. Flakes pop and dark colors have that wet look with depth. It is really expensive and only lasts a couple of months if you don't boost it. the Danase paint sealant has instant cure times it is what I use on lighter colored cars when I want to layer. But when it comes to price and good looks on darker colors I'd say Optiseal or EX.

Amazing to me that you mention that UPP mutes flake - it has always been one of the clearest sealants I have ever used. Different eyes see different things I suppose.

The difference between Z-2 Pro and Z-5 was something to see as the Z-2 was very clear and the Z-5 wasn't. Considering their intended purpose I can understand, but it was amazing to me to see the difference side by side considering I don't usually put a lot of thought into that area.

I too am surprised by Mr.Clean's claim UPP mutes flake.
Different eyes see different things.:inspector:
This is what makes products interesting.:passout:

JP and Rabbi, I'm surprised that ya'll are surprised :D Don't tell me I'm the only one to make this observation???

Yes, it does (UPP/mutes flake) for my eyes (I still like the product - though probably won't replace my bottle with the newer Poly-charged version - price of admission too much for me). Anyway, at the time I picked up PB's EX-P which gave me the look I wanted and similar performance a similar look. I'm not certain how the final version of PwS looks/performs, but the version I have is swell also.

My favourite sealants:
DG #501 &#105 combo.
Klasse AIO & SG .
WG sealant
CG Jetseal or M seal.
I have a sample of PB EXP that I have not tried yet, will let you know soon.

I've used:
- Klasse AIO. Very easy to use, but I'm not sure it lasts very long.
- DP Sealant - easy to use, feels slick and has a shine
- Wolfgang DGS - My favorite of the ones I've used. Looks great on dark cars, easy to use. Seems to be long lasting.

I'd like to try the PB product as all of the PB products I've used are great.

some sealants I have used or at least worth mentioning,
nxt - pick it up local, inexpensive, easy to use, great looking.
exp - shipping?, inexpensive, easy to use, great looking.
upp - shipping?, relatively inexpensive, easy to use, great looking.
sg - shipping?, relatively inexpenssive, trickey to use, great looking.

all these sealants will give you great gloss and shine, IMO SG out performs, everything I have used, but for application reasons I don't use it very much. nxt is great if your doing a few cars on the weekend for extra cash. don't know the reason but my bottles of nxt, exp, and ex are the most empty.

I am looking to experiment more on the polishing side of things (polishes & pads), I spent lots of time removing swirls from paint. removing swirls seems to be the most challenging process for me. I get pretty nice results, but spend the entire day polishing.
I could apply a sealant in no time.

With all the talk about cost and what looks good on dark cars I surprised that NXT 2.0 and DG 105 have not been mentioned.

Both are reasonably priced and look great on dark colors.
