Sealants and glazes

OK - I understand wet sanding and have done it; I understand polishes and have done it with a rotary and a Flex; I understand putting a wax on and have done it. What are sealants and glazes for? Thanks!

Simply put a sealant does the same thing as a wax but the protection last longer.

If you have used a rotary to get rids of imperfections then you might sidle up to a glaze for it can hide minor imperfections and save a session with the rotary until the next wash. For some say that glazes tend to wear off quicker than either waxes or sealants.
Although that may now be an exception rather than the rule these days. I have limited experience with glazes. Black Hole from Poorboy's has proven to last more than a few washes in my foray into the world of glaze.

In addition to what Kirk says, sealants tend to give a different look than a wax - i.e. more clarity with less warmth. Or so it is said. I think it takes a pretty trained eye when it gets to that level of perception. Or a lot of subjectivity.

As previously said you can use a sealant just like a wax. A sealant will usually offer longer and better protection then a wax with a different look as well. Sealnts usually offer a hard candy shell look, extreme gloss but not the "warmth" a good wax provides.
Glazes are for ramping up the gloss after polishing before you apply your LSP. A glaze can also be used to conceal minor paint defects not correcting them.

Do you have any particular products that u might be using, there are always exeptions for certain products.

Agree I hear the wax look mentioned a lot but I put Pinnacle Souveran wax on my Black show car and DG-105 on part of it and while at a car show dozens of people looked at it and no one could tell me what was wax and what was sealant.

Another angle:
Sealants are synthetic products, man made chemicals, acrylics and polymers. Waxes are usually natural products from nature. Carnauba, Montan, and beeswax, all natural products are the basis of most waxes.

The synthetic (sealants) offer longer protection than the natural ones (waxes).

Glazes are special products that can fill in minor swirls and offer shine at the same time.
Usually glazes go underneath a sealant or a wax.
