I was wondering what I can do about the horrific amount of swirls on my black monte carlo? All help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hello Pink and welcome to forum. I suggest you do a search there are many threads on this and one of them may get you pointed in the right direction.

We had a BMW with a swirled hood not to long ago. Read them and see which best fits your scenerio. Then if you need further information start another thread.

Also Autopia onhome page has a link to swirls you may want to read as well.

I think you may have questions afterwards but this way you can get some background information.

Hey, Pink -

I have a black car too - it is new and finish is still in good shape but I have learned..... there is a LOT to learn. You'll hear all about this or that product and some of them will be held up to sound too good to be true (and they will in fact be so).

More imoprtant than the products you use is a fundamental understanding of the process, and technique. I would highly recommend that you find a good detailer in your area, and pay for his/her services with the explicit proviso that you get to watch and ask questions. Observe the technique as much as the products used. THEN take over the care yourself.

Hi Pink,
I gathered information from various sources, and then used the most consistent methods spoke of, from both Pro detailers in person, to this board. I am a rookie, but my first attempts to remove my micro-swirls were outstanding thks in part to advice on this board and other sources.

Here's a link on my results using a Porter cable, you can click the link below my signature to see the results, too.

I also have a black car. Should I be using different towelling than normal to dry my black car? I'm currently using the charisma cotten towels. I can see some swirls when the car is in the sun. What are the best towels to use for the car?

Charisma's are quite good. You may also want to stock up on some quality microfiber towels. Although there is much debate here as to who makes the best ones and where to get them. You can search back in the archives to get some idea. I also like flannel towels for the windows combined witht the glass microfiber towel for windows. As for swirls, any towel will eventually cause them, but the better ones are less likely and of course using them without the edges swiping on the car definitely helps!

Arkus - Nice to hear from you again !

Everyone has their own opinion about this - mine is that the hand application will be fine; you are done polishing, etc., so its not like you have to rub it in real hard, and this is how I have done it for years.

The other side of the fence - using a machine, well I guess it is fine too, but I have to think that more product will be used as the foam pad absorbs it, so I would have to think you are going to be using up your product faster, since alot of it will stay in the pad, right ?

So if I were to ever use a machine to do the final Blackfire/Collinite/Zaino, etc., LSP application/s, I would want to store that particular pad in something that prevented it from drying all out, or just bite the bullet and wash it, losing all that extra polish it might have in it..

What do you guys think ??

I like applying the product (Blackfire, Zaino) by hand because by the time Im done completely around the vehicle, its dry enough to start taking it off..

What's the best way to apply these . Is it better to apply them by hand or machine ?
I like applying waxes by hand, but you can get a thinner coat with a machine. Some sealants grab a little so a machine would be easier, but you do use more product.

I like applying by machine because it's quicker and it leaves a thinner layer, which will make it a lot easier to remove. Besides, I have a ton of liquid LSP's. Gotta use them up or I won't have an excuse to get something else.
