Scratches and loss of clearcoat on 03 BMW

This past weekend I was drying my car (03 BMW 330ci) and as I got to the drivers side door I see a bunch of scratches, some shallow, and some deep. All of them were concentrated in a circle with a diameter of about 5inches. My only guess is that some maybe rubbed up against my car, or possible rested on the door with rivets in their jeans or something.

Anyway, my planned attack for this was to use: Turtle Wax Polishing compound by hand, ssr2 & ssr1.5 with my PC. I got most out except for about four, but as I was doing the final polishing on one part of the door, I think some clear coat got rubbed away. It is still red underneath, but not as glossy. Iâ€â„¢m not sure if this is exactly what happened but there some pics that might help.

Anyone have any advice as to what I can do? I have some BMW clear coat in a bottle with a brush, but I think that filling it in might be out of my capabilities, or I might mess it up more. Can this be fixed professionally without having to repaint the whole door?

Thanks in advance!

BTW, it is more noticeable in person, as im sure you all know, taking pictures of a scratch or flaw in paint can be kind of tricky.

It looks like it will have to be resprayed. A good shop can blend it into the the door with out having to spray the whole thing.

I took a bunch of pictures and those were the best, its hard to get it to come out right.

When you say blend it in, do you mean clearcoat, paint, or both. Is this something that is done often? As in, is it a half way done job or can that procedure make it look original again?

Sorry for all the questions.

When paint is blended, I believe they just spray with clear, not color. My paint job was blended when I had my rear bumper replaced: they blended onto the quarter panels and doors. After the blend I still had a scratch that was there before.

Locate a mobile touch up guy , usually there guys work the local used car lots doing scratch and chip touch up work . I suggest them because thats all these guys do , day in and day out and their work is :bigups .

By your pics it looks like there's some pin holes in that scratch . What they probably will do is sand it down , prime it , color coat it ( base coat) then clear coat it . You'll never be able to tell it was repaired.

They can blend both the color and the clear so that the repair looks original. Of course, their skill will have a lot to do with how well it turns out.

I have this done regularly and it certainly *can* be done.
