scratch on tints..

Hi guys.. I recently found a scratch on my passenger side door window. It has Lumar tint on the inside. The scratch is certainly on the tint and not on the outside window. Is there any product out there that takes scratches out of tints? Something I can rub on there to buff it out? Regards, Cliff :xyxthumbs

Well, first of all, there are two types of "window tint." The first is the sheet of tint that many people put on their cars <--- "Tinting the windows." There is also another type of window tint, and with this, the actual glass of the window is tinted (usually available through factories only).

If the scratch is on that sheet of tint, then the only way to fix it, is by removing the tint, and re-doing it. As for the tinted window glass, I'm not sure...

Short of re-tinting that window, I believe you are out of luck. I also have Lumar on my Explorer; it's good stuff. The problem is tint is a thin and soft film. If the scratch is through the film, the adhesive will haze, and even if you could somehow buff the film even, that line of adhesive would still not be clear...but I babble on.

One good tip for folks with tinted windows....

When you remove your seatbelt, guide it around your side by hand. If you just unbuckle, and let er' go, there is a chance that the buckle will tap the window and mark the tint (yep, learned the hard way).

Hi, unfortunatly you will have to re tint the window. Be nice to the tint shop who did it @ maybe they will give you a good deal or freebe on a one time basis. If you try to buff it out you will go through the hard coat @ it will look worse. Sean:

Oh well, thanks for the advice guys. Now, I totally understand why buffing it out can't be done. I will consult with the tint shop that did it and see if I can get a good deal. Thanks! :)

I would say that it wouldnt cost to much to have the one window tinted. Ya just go get it redone, nothing wors that a mark/scratch/anything on your windows:wavey
