Scheduled wash plan...how much$$$ ???

Okay, so here's the deal, and I need a quick answer. The last car I did, a '96 Toyota Avalon, was so extremely well-liked by the owner, she emailed all of her friends in the area to tell them about me (and I got a copy of one of the emails from one of them). A few days ago, I got an email from one of these people inquiring about having her SUV done.

She has a relatively new, full-size Toyota Sequoia SUV, that's Thunder Gray (medium gray). She told me she used to have it washed when a guy she knew was in the area, but he hasn't been around in a while, so now she knows about me. She wants the Toyota fully detailed to start, for which I'll charge around $120 (I know, I can be a little cheap sometimes) and then wants to get on a scheduled wash system. I am assuming she means weekly or every other week, but still have to call her. But, I don't know what to charge for this, since I've never had a request.

I have my services charted like this:

Basic Wash (wash, windows, tires, and vacuum)- $20-35

Exterior Detail- $45-65

Interior Detail- $45-65

Full Detail- $80-130

So, what should I charge to wash this Sequoia regularly after I detail it, based on my other prices. I'm thinking around $25-30, but I'm not sure.

Help!

If she's going to be a repeat, regular customer, I'd cut here some sort of deal, like 10 - 20% off basic services. Nothing beats "easy" repeat business - it's stable income, which is a great asset and usually worth a slight discount.

So, if you'd normally charge $35 for a larger vehicle like the Sequioa, I'd tell her you'll give her $28 - that's a 20% discount, or, just to make her feel extra happy, I'd go $25.

I agree with what geeky said. Remember she could be like here friend telling many people about your services, that has to be worth something. also if you do a full detail the small details will be so much easier.

I'd be real careful about discounts. Most people with higher end vehicles using mobile detailers are more concerned with quality than price. If this lady has a Sequoia, most likely she isn't a bargain hunter. I'd charge $30 for something that size to wash, vac, wipe down dash/console and dress the tires. $60 to wash/wax the next time, and $75 every other time which would include polishing. You can also offer her a $45 rate each time and do your normal wash and spot clean the interior and wax a section of the exterior, so basically the vehicle is completely detailed every 4-6 weeks (depending how often she has it done). If she is going to be a weekly customer, then do the wash package one week and the maintenance package the next, since a maintenance package every week is probably overkill. In any event, you'd get $150 every 4 week, just from one person, spending 1-1.5 hours per week.

Believe me, going the discount route may get you some initial business and get your name spread, but don't over do it or you will be paying for it in the end. I foolishly agreed to wash 2 Town Cars and an Avalon each week for $50 total when I was just starting out. Within 6 months, they had 2 Town Cars and a Navigator and still only wanted to pay $50...and some weeks, only 1 car would be there and they wanted to pay me $16.67 for that one car. I finally dropped them. No way was I going to hold open a 3 hour slot for those three huge vehicles for only $50 and definitely not when half the time, there was only 1 or 2 to wash.
