salt damage

I washed my vehicle a couple of days ago after having salt on it for about a week. I noticed in some areas that it seemed like the salt went through the clear coat or the salt left some type of impression. I can't feel anything if I rub my finger over it. Any ideas as to what this is? Maybe it has nothing to do at all with salt?

~One man’s opinion / observations~

(Salt laden vehicle, left for about a week) As far as I know salt should not compromise a clear coat finish unless there was prior damage to the surface.

~Hope this helps~

III, I kinda find the same situation if the car is left dirty for an extended period...the paint (clearcoat) is sort of rough which means that routine washing is no longer removing the winter's contamination. Nothing unusual and there is nothing to see with the eye...perhaps the paint is a little less glossy but certainly no visible staining or anything like that.

When the warm weather returns, you can use clay or whatever to remove the crud and re-establish your "baseline" with your regular procedure...it's all part of de-winterizing your car. :(

if you're real concerned about it, you can use something like Meguiar's cleaner/wax (#6, IIRC) to do a little spot touch up.
