Safe alloy wheel cleaner?

I am worried that in the past I have used the wrong or too aggressive wheel cleaners (wonder wheels) on my previous cars causing the alloy wheels to deteriorate. I currently use megs all wheel which produces good results. Is this a safe produce as I've read that acid based cleaners are too harsh? People on other forums rate P21s gel wheel cleaner as a safe non-acid cleaner. I have also heard of people using P21s total auto wash a citrus based cleaner on their wheels.



Have people used these products and what do you think of them?
 
Personally, I think that any car wash shampoo will do the job nicely on a regularly waxed wheel. Make sure you have some sort of wax/sealant/wheel wax that will protect the alloy wheel. This way brake dust comes off easily and you won't have to look for harsh cleaners to clean your wheels. If you're looking for a natural cleaner, Simple Green will do the job nicely, also. Bad wheels some times take time. If your worried. us a wet mf towel and swap it out. Take your time. I pretty much use car wash also. I've tried the HF and ABF wheel cleaners and was not impressed. I've also used APC alkaline products, they help but I think car wash applied via foam gun does the same.
 
P21S Gel is gentle, yet effective. Spray it on, let it set as long as you'd like, agitate gently with a sponge or brush, and you're set.
 
I second P21S gel. Safe and effective. Spray on, let stand, agitate, rinse. A little pricey though.



Once you get them cleaned, a regular cleaning with auto soap should do it.

Have you tried Prime strong, I used it on my rims and it cleaned them up just fine..
 
meguiars wheel brightener...dilute it to 4:1 and pray it on a dry wheel, let it sit for 30 seconds, then wash it off....my alloy wheels on my truck were reall dirty after a year of just washing with soap and water....the WB restored them after just two washes! clean as new and much easier to clean now
