Rust removal

In the past I've use a product called PHIX for removing rust.

I can't find it locally anymore and was going to order from Gemplers but I thought I'd ask around first.

What product do you folks use when removing rust from metal, or porcelain sinks/toilets etc. I don't want one of the products that turns rust to primer as PHIX is a liquid that you spray on and that makes it handy for my projects. But..... open to suggetions.

We have a product here in Canada called C.L.R (Calcium lime rust) which is very popular I don't know if you have it in the south but it works great.

I use my angle grinder, but since I'm doing a full restoration that may not be what you're looking for. CLR seems to be a good product for what you are looking to do, I've never used it but I'd like to try it. Aircraft stripper should work too but it may be too powerful for what you need.

You forgot to mention the sandblaster Tubafeak! I agree. I use aircraft and an agle grinder for most of my rust removal. CLR is not a bad product, but for heavy rust it is not going to cut it. What kind of rust are you looking to remove and where is it on the car?

Oxisolv Rust Remover is a spray-on that works well. You need to remove any serious rust first with a grinder (if its really bad) or DA sander, spot blast the surface, then spray Oxisolv. It will chemically convert any remaining surface rust to zinc phosphate.

I get Oxisolv at swap meets, but you can order from Eastwood and other places too.

I haven't gotten my sandblaster yet, it's too messy in the garage. Plasma cutters are also nice if the rust is really bad, just zip the panel right off :flameon !
