RSX Cleaned Up

Greg Gellas

I'm Greg :)
So I had blazinrsx329 come by to work on his car....I was going to initally do a full paint correction, engine bay, interior, and wheel wells. We got a late start so I decided to do the engine bay, wheel wells, interior, and a wash. :D Good thing cause it took all day to do what I did...

Per usual, I pull the wheels to allow for easier cleaning of the wells and the wheels. I always have the fiance help do the wheels while I do the wells. This is what we started with...

She went to town on the wheels...And as usual they came out great...She used a highly dilutted meg's wheel brightnener due to the color and conern for damage to the finish.

She didn't forget the Lugs to clean...

DSC_0072.jpg

While she did that I moved onto the wheel wells. I knew they were bad, well discuss that in a minute...I sprayed de-greaser and let it sit for a minute...Just to double check on the woman;) I agitated with mini detail brush and a couple of other brushes...

They looked pretty standard until I started cleaning them...:run: I started with the fronts...As I rinsed I saw this....He had a leak previously and I cleaned it up :D

DSC_0060.jpg

So I moved on to rinsing the backs after agitating with numerous brushes...Once I rinsed, I had to keep rinsing to keep removing sand and pebbles...NEVER have I taken so much material out of a side skirt/wheel well.

Finally all cleaned up..And then I dressed the fender liners with Fade2Black...I love that stuff...

I moved onto the engine bay while the woman started on the interior...I left her alone as she's good on that...:D This is what I was dealing with, yeah yeah 300+ HP supercharged blah blah...So sick of working on his car I wanted to get into detailing it...We found out he has another issue with his tensioner today...

I de-greased agitated and dressed with Fade2black for the hoses and 303 for other areas...:D Those shiny hoses ARE DRY to the touch...

I moved on to washing the car....And Since the little lady was working on the interior, and I knew I didn't have the time to do any real work on the paint, I went around and took readings of the paint with my PosiTest Paint Thickness Gage...:D

 What the hell are these?

It couldn't be seen before washing...It really couldn't even in the sunlight....Blazin had no idea that anything had been done until today...So it explains my 900+ reading in that area on the door...Its been bondoed and resprayed...:(

Now I know when I go do do the paint correction I am dealing with that and things like this...:run: I have my work cut out for me...I dunno if I will have the time to finish it up tomorrow as I have a wedding this weeking and my brother coming in from CA tomorrow so I don't want to start and not have the time to finish...:o

Now that I was done checking out the paint and what I thought I would have to do out there I went and checked on the little lady with her interior job...Other than the standard drivers side carpet they weren't in bad shape at all...Drivers side was soaked in Resolve/Oxiclean spray on stuff then steamed....I decided to bust out the steamer to add the really nice triangles to the carpets...:D It really is a BADASS steamer....Makes cleaning easier as I always suck the dirt out with my wet/dry vac after soaking in cleaners agitating and steaming....Did I mention the cool lines it makes :D

The little woman does awesome work inside...

So today I got to complete this project...Along with helping my buddy with his 335...See here http://www.autopia.org/forum/click-brag/122804-trails-holograms-oh-my.html

This was my starting canvas...:run:

I did a test spot on the hood...From seeing what I was dealing with I knew it was gonna be at least a 2 step....I decided to start with a purple wool pad with some SIP...Left side of the hood done...

DSC_0180.jpg

DSC_0173.jpg

Of course we pulled to wing to get every area of the paint...:D

DSC_0194.jpg

I did the test spots outside...I moved it inside to really get the job done...

DSC_0179.jpg

After going over the entire car with SIP and the purple wool pad, I took it back outside to rinse off...I need new lights in my garage :o....I then proceded to go back over the entire car with my UDM a white pad and 106....I then pulled it outside to check on my work...I had missed some spots that needed compound removal and wiped those off :o....I have really liked using the Blackfire Wetdiamond recently....It really adds great depth to the paint...

I decided to dress the tires as they were BROWN I slapped some Opti bond tire gel on there and wiped it off.... This is what we ended up with...Even that mismatched door turned out really nice...It really does match much better when the car is in front of you....It doesn't look bad at all...

Nice DC5! and good job! I need to get my lady out there helping me with my details. It'll give it that womans touch!

Very nice work, that's a sharp RSX.

As others said, you gotta use jack stands man. That jack is not intended to support the car weight, and if it fails you're gonna have one hell of a problem.

Worse yet, your driveway is on an incline which just adds to the jack being more unstable/dangerous. (You can tell by the water running down your driveway all the way to the street.)

Please be safe and buy some quality stands.
