hI GUYS.

jUST BOUGHT MY SELF A NEW ROTARY

HAVE NOT TRYED IT OUT YET,

BUT IF I AM CAREFULL AROUND EDGES AN RUN IT ON LOW

SPEED IT SHOULD BE SAFE, OR ??

You'll be fine. Just start slow if you need to and get the feel for how the machine acts and reacts. Keep the pad flat and it doesn't hurt to prime the pad with the product your using. It's also a good idea to spray a little QD on the surface your buffing to help reduce friction. Good luck.:)

Thanx again.

you see,as a norwegian i got a small problem whit all this

smr, nxt, lsp,vm,and all the other shortened names ; )

We don,t do that in Norway

Quick Detail Spray.

Sorry, i have never seen that product in Norway.

Norway is like the 3,rd world when it comes to good

car care products.

Is it possible to use a spraybottle with water instead ?????

You do not need detail spray to keep your pad damp during polishing. Distilled water in a spray bottle is fine. This is what most detailers use. Detail spray is expensive compared to water and both do the same job for polishing.

Keep your speeds slow, under 1500rpm, to avoid generating excessive heat while polishing. Foam pads are safer than wool pads as they do not generate heat as quickly. A little spray of water will also reduce heat and allow you to polish the panel without drying out the pad.

What product brands are available to you in Norway? Do you have any internet links you can give us so we can look to see what you can buy? Even if the text is not in English we might be able to help you determine what the products are.

I'm don't claim to be an expert, but...

1) Keep the speed low (start at 1000-1200 rpm, no more than 1500 rpm until you get some experience)

2) Keep the machine moving, but moving slowly (4 inches per second is just about right)

3) Use light pressure (high pressure and speed burns paint)

4) Gripping the machine by the head rather than the handle often makes it easier to control

5) Give the polish time to break down, but don't buff to long (once the shine starts to come through, it's generally a good time to stop)

6) Buff up to egdes, not on them

7) Keep the pad reasonably flat, and try not to drive the outer edge of the pad into other painted surfaces

8) Use mild compounds and foam pads to start with

9) Clean the pad occasionally with a dull screwdriver to keep it from loading up

Well, after looking at the sites its clear I need to brush up on my Swedish.

But I did see Autoglym products sold by Krefting. That's pretty decent stuff. They have a nice product line. If Krefting sells Meguiars (I could not find it) then I think they would be a good supplier for you.

Great advice........BUT

I notice there have been a couple of suggestions to keep the pad flat, this isnt really a great idea. The part of the pad you want to "work" the paint is the area bentween 11 and 3 or 4 o'clock. The Rotary polisher should be at a 10 degree angle, allowing that part of the pad to polish the paint. You cant really keep a rotary pad "flat" because of the direct drive action the top and the bottom of the pad are spinning in opposite directions..................

Thanx for all the good advises guys.

I guess I have to spend some money at the local meguiars dealer

And to bretfraz,Forget about the swedes, learn norwegian instead :)
