Rotary with all steps...swirling?

Hey guys, I was wondering if a rotary wheel can be used for compounding, polishing, and waxing.

So far I only polished and waxed with the wheel. I applied a polish that a co-worker (he does detailiing on the side) swears by with a polishing pad, which was spurred and used to remove the residue. Then I used a paste cleaner wax on a finishing pad, then used a microfiber bonnet over a wool pad to buff away the residue, still with the rotary, and the result was a shiny but swirled finished.

I'm guessing the swirls were the result of either:
improper movement of the wheel (too fast over the paint)
dry buffing with the polishing pad and MF bonnet
not allowing enough time for the wax to dry before removing

...or just mainly that a rotary can't be used to wax.

I need some advice/input. Thanks!

the rotary can be used for all steps you need thje right pad/ product combo , keep your pad clean , dont get carried away with the speed and take your time and work with the machine dont force it .. patience and lots of practice

Thank you so much. You can't even understand how much this was bothering me...seriously.
By the right pad/ product combo though...for general, swirl-removing, light once-a-year polishing, would a polish and finishing pad be fine? Also, I've heard opposing thoughts on whether or not to keep the pad flat...what's your input?

Thanks again!

i would highly recomend the meguairs buffing video . i believe it helped me by watching the guy on there using the rotary and i watched his teqnique and it gave me confidence to step up and use the rotary as it was intended ... paint correction and polishing . good luck .

Take what you've learned from here apply it to your work..the rest is all trial and error ..

I use wool for scratches and heavy swirling only. Wool is an old skool detailer thing, and in my opinion, obsolete to foam pads.
