Rims...before & after (NOT fun!!)

I let the back of my rims go for a while, and I figured that since I was going to rotate the tires, now would be a good time to clean them up.

O-M-G!!! The rears didn't look to bad, but the fronts.... Nothing I had would touch it. The only cleaners that would even start to put a dent in the stuff was Orange Clean and Mean Green.

I ended up using steel wool to clean the backsides :bigscream

After that, I used NXT on both sides and put a on coat of #16 that I let set up overnight. I did the left side rims yesterday and the right side rims are in the living room now waiting for wax.

Here's before:

Did you notice any scratching with the steel wool? I've been considering the same thing on my wife's wheels. Didn't want to scratch them though.

Looks like lots of work you did there. :bigups

Thanks...I didn't get any scratching (and I even had to use a brass brush in a few areas). I didn't have to use the steel wool on the chrome (front sides) though.

I did that when I bought the rims on my truck used. I filled up the bathtub with water and Dawn and went to work with a sponge. Of course the tires weren't mounted at the time which made it easier but still the Dawn worked great getting all the stuff off.

Great job Don! Sometimes it's amazing what's under all that baked on crude. You'd never know there was a chrome rim under there :cool

Thats awating me in a while. I noticed my rims being like that when looking fromt he front of the car. I think I will try a cocktail of EF HI, APC+ and SG.
