As silly as this may seem, I was pretty excited the other day when I saw Autopia started carrying Griot’s Garage Tim’s Dirty Spots Wipe Down Towel*.

This was one of the very first microfiber towels I bought when I decided it was time to take my weekend detailing routine to the next level.

5 years later, I’m still using Tim’s Dirty Spots Wipe Down Towel after every 2 bucket wash!

From ACC`s copy:
It all started with Tim. He`s a Griot`s Garage customer who loves their Microfiber Dry Towel but doesn`t like staining his towels when he dries those tricky, hidden dirty areas of his vehicles, like wheels, doorsills, gutters, trunk and hood channels, doorjambs, etc. So we created a less expensive, smaller towel just for these areas that always have a little dirt and grime, even after a good washing. This towel is a perfect size, 18" x 24", so it is easy to use. Super absorbent, waffle weave pattern holds more water than a traditional cotton towel. Thanks to Tim!

Here it is in action, on door jams:

Once finished, I’ll pre-wash the towel in my used 2B rinse water, rubbing it against the grit guard to knock of as much grime as possible before machine washing:

For example, here`s the gunk from the trunk:

Much better already!

Seriously tho, I love this towel because it’s just the right size to fold up and hold for drying those small areas.

And as you can see it release dirty very easily - I’ve never noticed a stain after machine washing it.

And if you’re thinking this is just a light grey WW drying towel - it’s not! Check out Dirty Tims between a WW drying towel and a glass towel:

If you want to save your premium plush mf’s and are looking a dedicated mf for those grimy areas this is it! I’m still using the same ones from 5 years ago!!

* Footnote: I purchased this towel directly from GG before PBMG started selling it. I honestly love this towel. I’m sharing this review so you know about how great it is too.

Nice review. I have had one of those for awhile love using it for jambs, underside of trunk lid, etc. great product.

Great review Angus .

When I first started "detailing" 15 years ago all I knew about was the Griots Garage catalog and Zaino. All of my microfiber towels came from Griots for probably 10 years or more.

These Tim`s dirty spot towels filled a need that you outlined perfectly in your review. I still use them today.

I asked Ray to put it up on the site a few days ago. I actually want to use them as kitchen towels lol. Thanks Ray!

Cool. Thank you.

I`ve been using the sams/Costco rags for this, then pitching.

I dunno. I bought a pack of like 25 Costco yellow MF towels for stuff like this about 7 years ago. I think 25 of them cost me $20. I don`t use them on paint, but use them on dirty stuff like exhausts, trunk hinges, etc... I`ve even used them doing mechanical type of work.

In fact, I have about 6 of them I just use around the house. I wash those 6 with regular wash and detergent... I have about 7 I use for dirty detailing tasks- the rest are virgin untouched towels. The 7 "detailing ones" I wash with DP (who dat?) MF detergent.

Folks, those Costco towels just don`t fall apart. Nor do they curl up or fray on the edges like other cheap MF towels. And, I still have about 12 new virgin Costco towels I have yet to use.

I`ve had a few of these for three years and I agree with all the praise posted. I wouldn`t be afraid to use them on any paint surface, but since they`ve been designated from day one for jambs etc., that`s where they will stay. As mentioned, they clean up well with normal laundering, are the ideal size for their intended purpose and help resist the temptation to use a premium towel such as a Guzzler or PFM on dirty spots.
Well worth the minimum investment to save your premium drying towels from excess wear.

The Costco towels used to be better. I think they`ve changed within the last few years. The edges get hard and curl up after a few washes. Use them for household and tires/wheels.
