Review: Gliptone Car Wash Soap

I tried out Gliptone Car Wash soap this weekend. Gliptone is found in the North East and is available at Pep Boys, Strauss Automotive and online at AutoBarn.com.

I decided to try it so I can support a local family business - made in New York. Plus, I was curious and wanted to add to the arsenal of products!

I paid $9.99 for 64 oz. bottle. It comes in a smaller bottle as well. I would say it would compete with Meguiars Gold Class although a little more expensive for the larger bottle.

At first glance, this "PH balanced" soap is funky bright orange in color and has a rather boring liquid detergent-like smell. However, it is much thicker than Gold Class. Where Gold Class is like maple syrup, the Gliptone is a little thicker than honey. Its consistency is better than the GC.

It suds up real nice. It's lubricity is awesome. My sheepskin mitt pretty much glided itself along the roof with the initial inertia of my hand. It cut through the dirt with no problems, and I felt secure in feeling the extreme slickness of the soap. After the suds died down (20 minutes later), I simply stuck my mitt in the bucket and vigorously swished around and it sudded back up again to an acceptable level to go back and hit a few areas I missed along the bottom near the mud flaps.

When I hosed off with a free flow of water, the soap just sheeted off. The car was rather hot from driving and by the time I got to the other side to dry, it was already dry! Zero spots and next to no streaks - it dried itself! I hosed off again just to be sure. (I ran a plain wet Magic Towel MF over the surface just to make sure there was no dried soap as a precautionary measure) The windows were streak free too.

The car was dried with a chamois and an MF. A little QD and she looked great. (I want to try the Gliptone QD too!)

Unfortuantely, due to it's availability and slightly higher price, GC and Eagle One, for that matter, will win out for many.

If you happen to come across the soap, pick it up and try it out. You can't go wrong and you'll have an extra soap to play with!

Gliptone will be at the NY Auto Show that I'll be attending. I look forward to checking out their booth and learning more.

Thanks guys :xyxthumbs
