Repairing Scuffed Fender?

I have an 02 Golf. I've managed to scuff the black "rubbish bin plastic" part of the fender that's underneath the main painted front section (very technical description!).



Any suggestions on what to use? I suspect sand paper will just cloud the surrounding area.



It doesn't need to be perfect, I just want to blend it in a little more.

I am not familar with the Golf but there are several plastic polishes available to level and clean scratches. Mothers has one and CMA carries a plastic polish.
