Repairing pads

In my haste to change pads I ripped the backing off one of my wool pads - what adhesive to fix?...3M spray? also what do you all use to clean up your orbitals and rotaries with products all over them? - I assume a IPA dilution?

Hey Glen,

I along with just about everyone has seen this kind of pad failure. I've tried both 3M Super 77 and Loctite Heavy Duty Spray Adhesive spray and both seem to work well.

Dampen a cloth with IPA and wipe the area. Most will come off quickly and cleanly. If some remains clean it again and maybe scrub with a small brush then wipe... I clean mine after every use...

I think 3M will work well. The adhesive they make really is good stuff.

I agree with Bobby. The spray adhesive is one of the only things that will work well for what you want to do.

I remember that these pads are press together under many tons of pressure to work properly. Sorry to see this happen to you just like everyone has mention that the 3M Spray should work for you, just be careful that it doesn't rip apart when your using again. I always just get a new pad and throw it out in fear of causing damaged to a surface.

I would probably do that if I was doing customer's cars, but as an old retired man with hard as nails gelcoat and a paid for Honda, I'll 3M it and be careful....LOL
