Removing tape goo from window?

There is some transparent sticky, goo on the inside of my back window. I have no idea what it is, but seems to be the adhesive left from very wide tape. It's about two inches by 6 inches. I can feel the wires of the defroster, so I want to be very careful removing this goo. What kind of solvent should I try?

I went through something similar while repainting my side moldings. The tape I used wasn't "low tack" so it left some glue on the windows. I just used more tape and kept sticking it on and pulling it off rapidly until the tape takes it all off.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to try bug and tar remover either.

no matter what you do, those lines can be painted back on. They can do that at body shops. So if you screw up, don't freak...

I've tried both Goo Gone and Goof Off. I found that the Goof Off works a lot better on adhesives. A good window cleaner would clean any residue that may be left over.

Hi,

This sounds like the residue from a dealer sticker, always a pain to remove. I found that Autoglym Glass Polish will remove it easily. If you apply a thick coat and rub fairly briskly it will also remove the demister element, so be careful. A light application and gentle rubbing will save the element. Possibly all these products have similar solvents so similar care should be taken.

Regards, Kes.
