Removing swirls with Poorboys SSR by hand?

I have some moderate swirling on my dark colored 1998 4runner (anthracite). I am brand new to Autopia, and have learned a lot already. I am getting ready to do a full detail including wash, clay, Zaino Z5, Z6, Z2. Only through this website did I discover that Z5 does basically nothing but mask minor swirling. I am interested in the Poorboys SSR2.5. I am not ready to invest in a PC quite yet (although you guys make it tough to hold out!). I am planning on hand applying/buffing a coat of SSR2.5 and repeating the process with Klasse AIO before topping off with Zaino. Will I be able to adequately remove swirls by hand using Poorboys and MF's?

I haven't done anything by hand for years, so it's hard for me to help you with that part of the question, but if I absolutely was forced to do a detail by hand, I think I'd make sure to use one of these applicators:
