removing race pad brake dust

CHAOS

alright guys, this is the first time im completely lost as to what to try next...my near mint condition wheels are now COVERED in brake dust, well sort of, i was able to get a large amount off but there are still some small spots im having alot of trouble with... im trying to avoid letting it sit on the wheel for long periods of time becuase itll start to pit... what ive tried so far:

- power washing

- p21s autowash soaking + hand scrubbing + fingernail scraping

- clay bar

nothing seems to really touch the spots... any ideas short of acid? the wheels are factory powdercoated BBS from the sti... and i do not want to have to refinish them. any help is appreciated.

Have you tried and AIO type product or a light polish?

Once you get them clean, seal them with a good sealant.

Also carbotech track pads do not have the PITA corrosive dust like hawk pads and the like.

hmm how about something like the PB PWS or SSR1? its all going to be hand applied because nothing short of a dremel will fit in the wheels haha... im going to use the PB wheel sealant when they are clean.

you have epxerience with the carbotech pads? and how did you know i had carbotechs? haha

Give those a try as it will not hurt anything.

I used to track my old Z06. Had over 30 days in the car. Actually I figured you might have had hawks since you where having issues getting the wheels clean. The only time I had major problems getting the wheels clean after using carbotech pads was when I got the wheels wet after track use.

I also would use PB SnR full strength after the track on the wheels. Even with PFC01s (horrible corrosive dust) the SnR would get 80% of the dust off using the Spray and Rinse method. I would then reapply and clean the rest off with a MF.

PB SnR is pretty strong, if any part of your wheels are not clear coated do not use it.

well i drove home from the track and hit rain, and keep in mind ive been driving daily on these pads because i havent had time to swap them, hence me having problems... im running carbotech xp8's all the way around.. .. i dont have any of the SnR right now, so ill try the other 2 products and see what i come up with... i suppose ill post pictures when i get home from work as well.

well ssr1 didnt work, ssr2 didnt work, and ssr3 barely did the trick. it took me a while to get a chance to get to the wheels cause i was swapping brake pads, so ill hit them wheel by wheel and post pix when im done

If you find that you cant do much by hand Mothers Powerballs and a drill worked great for me in the past.

I own a mothers powerball mini... it really doesnt do anything for getting into the small spaces of my wheels... just in case you dont know what the sti BBS wheel looks like...
