Removing #9 SMR between 'passes'

When working with Megs #9 SMR, I usually run the PC on 5 or so and work it until it's almost gone. At this point, I grab my MF and wipe away the haze and determine if I need to make another pass.

My question is this:

If I need to make another pass with the PC on a body panel, do I need to remove ALL of the dried SMR from the panel before going at it again? It would seem that I could save a lot of MF and time by just smearing some more #9 on there and continuing to work..

Thanks in advance for the replies!

I've never thought twice about this, but I would think that it is better to completely buff off the old residues. Any older, dried residue will soak up the moisture from the new product and cause it to dry out prematurely or maybe gum up. Besides, how are you supposed to evaluate the surface if you don't buff it off?
