Removing 3M red tape??

I pulled my bed caps off my truck today. They were attached with 3M red "emblem" mounting tape. They have been on for around 1 year.

Anyway, I now have about 20 pieces of this tape stuck on the top of my bed. I tried everything today to get them off :hairpull . What would be the best thing to use to get these off?

I'm thinking about getting some of the plastic "razor" blades, then some SSR 2, 2.5, or 3 to remove the rest.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for the help,

Brian

spray it with some bug and tar remover, use a hair dryer and one of those plastic blades. it will take alittle bit of time but that should get it off. plan on washing and polishing after. Or if you have a rotary buzz that crap off! Good luck.

I would try to slide a piece of monofilament fishing line under the edge of the tape next to the body of the vehicle and working it back and forth in a "sawing" action to remove the tape. Then following up with, a 91% rubbing alcohol solution, found in most drug stores. A little elbow grease may be necessary to remove the tape residual but afterwards be sure to clean and polish the vehicle surface.

Could I use one of the SSRs with a PC and get the same results? I realize that this will probably kill the pad, but that would be OK.

I just don't want to hurt the paint.

Thanks,

Brian

Hair dryer, and a thumb. Once its warm use your thumb to roll the adhesive onto itself. Follow up with a little Goof Off to remove the remnants of adhesive. It's a bit of work, but it is the best way I've used.

when I was a kid I worked for years in BLOOMINGDALES housewares dept- all complained they could never get the price tags or glued on stuff off completely-

THE ANSWER IS:

GET A WRAGE AND MURPHYS SOPA LIQUID- SATURATE THE TAGE MAYBE WAIT OVERNIGHT AND THE SHOULD PULL RIGHT OFF OR A SMALL SOFT PUTTY KNIFE

I AM POSITIVE THIS WORKS

this is probably the only thing i know how to do.... how pitiful is that :)

and im positive it will work- maybe (now im deviating) spray some WD40-layer

But the murphys has some chemical in it that makes the glue coagulate and just comes right off.....its amazing

let me know if you tried it

I used the Murphy's oil soap, and it worked great :woohoo: . Much better than the bug and tar remover and it also added a lubrication layer so that I didn't scratch the paint.

When I was done, I washed the area, then used SSR2.5 on a light cutting PC pad, then finished up with PWC on a finishing PC pad. Finish looks like new.

Thanks for all the help. Now I'll keep a spray bottle of Murphy's in my cleaning cabinet!
