I have a car that I recently cleaned the interior with a mild soap. Unfortunately the soap has a preservative in it that seems to be causing rashes on my skin when I touch it. I have been able to successfully clean it off of the plastic and rubber surfaces, but the leather in the car, in particular the steering wheel it doesn't seem to want to come off of. It seems to have soaked into the leather in such a way that a little bit comes off on my skin every time I touch it. Is there a way to clean leather such that this substance can be completely removed?
FWIW - its a chemical called Methylisothiazolinone, which despite being used in a lot of personal care products, soaps, etc can cause strong allergic reactions. Even those categorized as "free and clear" or "hypoallergenic".
thanks
