Red Stains in Carpet ....

So I have three spot of some nasty red stains on a tan Ford carpet that won't come out. I'm not sure of the source of the stain .. but it looks to be from a red juice spill or maybe a red soda spill.

So far, I've hit it with:

1) Oxy Foam Carpet Cleaner followed by hot water extractor .. no affect.

2) Folex Carpet Cleaner followed by hot water extractor .. no affect.

3) Lemon Ammonia diluted w/ water followed by hot water extractor .. no affect.

4) 100% Lemon Ammonia followed by hot water extractor .. lightened it a little.

5) GooGone Orange Cleaner followed by hot water extractor .. no affect.

6) Super Clean Purple Degreaser followed by hot water extractor .. no affect.

7) Acetone followed by hot water extractor .. no affect. :wall

I've read where some are using a standard household clothes iron to "steam" the red dye out, gonna try the next w/ some diluted ammonia. I've also seen a recommndation for a "Harvard Stain Blaster" using this same method.

Does anyone have a better solution or am I on the right track w/ the Iron method?

While there are a few products made for these types of stains, Red Relief is one, and yes some of them use heat to help remove the stain. Hit or miss if they remove or just lighten the stain.

The problem you might encounter now is that you have set the stain in with your cleaning trials.

Try the heat.

Red and orange pop stains are very hard to remove because the pop-dye is acid based, the same way the carpet itself is dyed.

You can buy carpet spray cans (paint-dye) to match the carpet, but usually only makes it less noticeable.

I had success with 303 Aerospace Fabric/ Vinyl Cleaner. Pre-treat with it full strength and agitate with a brush then dilute it per the instructions in the Hoover Steam-Vac.

It took a few passes but the stains are GONE.

OK ... this stuff at this site is the "Harvard Stain Blaster" that I mentioned. So, I think I'll hold off on trying the ammonia & iron and get this stuff and try it instead. I looked at the MSDS for the product and the main ingredient is ammonia, but I'm hoping that for my $20 I'm buying more than a labeled bottle of diluted ammonia!

Anyway, I am afraid that my efforts so far have set the stain(s). I'll report back on the effectiveness of the "Harvard Stain Blaster" & steam iron. If it's a no go, I'll proceed to dyeing next. :nervous2:
