Red Light Cameras

No sure if these things are the norm in your area but they are in mine.

Got one in the mail when I got home from work last night for not coming to a complete stop making a right on red.

It was safe and all but not textbook 2 second pause.

This cameras are super sharp. You could tell my car was clean and freshly detailed in the picture and you can even go online and watch the video. BTW the exhaust tips were amazing, love the palladium.

Anyway loads of people up here are putting a clear "prysm" cover on their license plates to avoid the camera catching them. Putting a plastic cover on the plates is illegal in NY and therefore I wont do it.

I was reading about red light cameras on the web and a link on beating them came up. There is a spray that makes the plates super shiney and therefore reflects the flash and over exposed it in the picture. Anyone know if this is legit or BS. Watched a video supposedly done by Denver police on News 31 and it claims to work.

I would feel more comfortable if someone I knew told me it worked.

Thanks,

Time for a James Bond rotating licence plate.. Have you ever seen a plastic recycle type box hanging from a tree they us to track us with ez pass.. At one point they were all over the place.

I believe they did a full episode on myth busters on trying to beat speed/red light camera's and nothing worked reliably. Best bets to get a good radar that has GPS for camera locations or try on the apps for your phone that has them.

I had a dark license plate cover on my car and they got me about a year ago. Not the same thing as the spray but still... I think your best bet is to just know the locations.

My county overturned them for being unconstitutional and I got a refund, so maybe write your representative! ;)

I know the locations, my set up gives me red light and speed camera locations. It was just a safe stop, before a right on red that was not a full 100% stop with a pause that was not acceptable to them.

I don't run red light or anything, this was just a money grab in my opinion. Believe me I don't want to hurt anyone, myself included or mess up my car.

BTW, are there any coatings that will protect me from a full broadside collision?

Thanks

You in Pinellas county FL?

In FL any altering of a tag is illegal (including tinted license plate covers)

320.061 Unlawful to alter motor vehicle registration certificates, license plates, temporary license plates, mobile home stickers, or validation stickers or to obscure license plates; penalty.—A person may not alter the original appearance of a vehicle registration certificate, license plate, temporary license plate, mobile home sticker, or validation sticker issued for and assigned to a motor vehicle or mobile home, whether by mutilation, alteration, defacement, or change of color or in any other manner. A person may not apply or attach a substance, reflective matter, illuminated device, spray, coating, covering, or other material onto or around any license plate which interferes with the legibility, angular visibility, or detectability of any feature or detail on the license plate or interferes with the ability to record any feature or detail on the license plate. A person who violates this section commits a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a moving violation as provided in chapter 318

My bro-in-law gave me a can that he got through a BOGO deal. He got hit twice with the cameras and he was so pissed he decided to place an order. I did my truck, my wife's suv, and my car and never got a ticket. The city finally decided to get rid of them for some reason. Thing is, we can't really tell if it works. I just know we never got any pics in the mail of our cars running the light. You stated that the pic you got was really clear, the pics I saw of my bro-in-law's truck were fuzzy but you could still read the plates so I'm not sure if some of those cameras are better than others?

My gripe is this, I don't care if the STATE wants to fine me but the state does not have the money for this project. This lead them to outsource the project to an privately held company who is now making 50+% profit on each ticket, then kicking it back to the state. To this is legalized extortion...

Fun fact each sensor worth almost cost of the whole camera, a laser can fry a sensor in less then 3 seconds. You do the math.

Correct me if I'm wrong... But technically they can't issue you a fine through the mail can they? Don't they have to send someone to physically hand it to you after identifying you? (I forget what those people are called)

last i checked, things get lost in the mail all the time. so technically you could say you never received it. Obviously not now that you posted it but if there is a next time

Heard this on the radio some time ago...
A guy gets a pic in the mail of him running a red light with a fine of $100, so he takes a pic of 5 $20 bills and mails it off to the police station. They send him back a pic of some handcuffs...he paid the ticket that afternoon. lol.

There was a huge news paper article today in my town about the accuracy of the cameras and if they really are that effective. Thankfully every violation I have ever gotten is in my "work" car and the violation is immediately voided :)

But the whole argument for Radar & Laser detectors and jammers is the same.....

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I would't put running a red light in the same catgegory as exceeding the posted speed limit. Eh, just IMO and all...but the "full stop for a stoplight/stopsign" is something I want people (myself included) to do every time.
