Red 1997 Mustang Cobra - Swirled and Oxidized

This is my buddy's car. It is kept outside 24/7, and with all of the construction going on at his house thanks to the hurricanes, it's hard to keep it clean. He helped me out with the whole detail, and I love the color of this paint, so I enjoyed it.

It was last polished ~5 months ago, had a decent amount of swirls, and the horizontal panels (hood, roof, trunk, front + rear bumpers) had a moderate amount of oxidation.

The car was also clayed a few months ago, so I felt that it didn't need it.

We started out with an NXT wash, dried it, pulled it into the garage and got to work.

I used Poorboy's SSR2.5 with a polishing pad on my PC set at 5-6. This didn't haze the paint at all, and left a beautiful swirl-free finish. Finished with Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant w/a finishing pad. The tires got Poorboy's Bold 'N Bright.

Here is the rear bumper half-polished.

And now the finished product....I know the wheelwells are dirty -- he mainly just wanted me to fix up his paint.

Enjoy!

Very nice, job well done. You just have to love red on a sports car!

Out of curiosity, are those older model Cobra wheels or is that what came on his? I feel like I'm looking at a 94-95, yet its a 97.

Thanks!

And nope they're the ones that came on his car....the thinner 5-spoke ones came on the 98's.

Dayummm!

Red is lookin sexy.

I'm still surprised how paint could oxidize that quick. What was the last LSP?

Whose 65ish pony is in the garage? Let's see some detail pics of that baby :xyxthumbs

Great job on the 97', I'm sure your friend was thrilled!

I'm aware of that but if you read his description, it was polished only 5 months ago.

D'oh! That is pretty quick, "Florida" sun can't be that much more intense than "Mississippi" sun, can it? :)

It's very strange. One day I was washing it, and I noticed that the plastic bumper was ALOT, and I mean ALOT hotter than the metal trunk. It was so hot that I couldn't even touch it....I really don't get that.

Anyways, it had Zaino on it for a bit, then I stripped that off and we did Poorboy's EX, and S100 x2 a few weeks apart. It was still beading very good yesterday, and the last S100 layer was applied 10-29-04.

The '66 is my dad's. It's been in the current state of 99% complete for the past 2 years. Once it's running, I'll detail it and take some pics.

Thanks to everyone for the compliments :D

awesome job matt,

have you used menzerna IP and/or FP2 ??

how does the ssr2.5 and ssr2 stack up against them ??

i have had no problems with hazing after the IP and the IP and NXT or the IP WG combo's are working great for me :xyxthumbs

How does the 'bold'n bright' hold up to slinging? I've haven't found a product that doesn't end up all over the wheel wells, paint and wheels yet !!
