Re-conditioning your MPV's seat tracks

i've never seen a thread on this topic before, and thought it'll be quite informative.

My business does lots of high-end MPVs, and in the interior detail, owners expect every last bit to be cleaned and new/almost new looking.

While it's easy but time consuming to do the panels, seats and carpets on such a large vehicle, the most difficult area is the back seats' longish, seat tracks on the floor. Even with a new looking interior, dirty/stained/scuffed seat tracks will marr a pristine-looking interior. As you enter through the sliding doors, you can't miss the unsightly stained seat rails on the floor.

Starting from the mildest:

Steaming: Negligible effect. The steam also softens the rubber strip on the track, so be careful.

1. Klasse AIO: no effect.

2. Cleaner waxes: no effect

3. APC (full strength+10mins pre-soak): negligible effect.

4. Methylated spirit: No effect

5. Alcohol: No effect

6. Acetone: Very hard vigorous rubbing to get just a bit of improvement.

7. Thinner: Noticeable improvement, but might damage colour and cause a whitish discolouration.

2 of the best solutions I've encountered:

1. Rubbing Megs 105 compound.

Even with an old MF, you hv to rub vigorously. hard work.

2. Light rubbing Autosol's Leather Cleaner.

Somehow, a leather cleaning product works wonders with a green scouring pad. Instant results!

Top strip: Light rubbing with Autosol Leather Cleaner

Bottom strip: Untouched

Presto!!!

Top strip: Totally clean now, with no damage!

The end of each track has an "end cap". This item was similarly treated, and now looks fresh.

Gigondaz- OK, OK...I'll buy some of that Autosol stuff. Any place have it especially cheap?

No dried product residue issues with the M105? Yeah, I know, buff it off before it dries, but still...

Oh, BTW, I wouldn't try M205 based on how it performed on exterior plastic trim.

(Heh heh, when I read "MPV" I thought you meant Mazda MPV as in my recently disposed of, POS-build-quality minivan ;) )
