RainX

I have been experimenting with video reviews lately. Here is a blurb about RainX for anybody who hasn't seen it in action and would like some application tips.

I usually get three months out of it before it wears down enough to reapply it. I live in a desert state and don't do a lot of driving though, so my results are probably not typical.

Nice video there but if you can include a video on how you apply the RainX will be even better :) .

The instructions are on the bottle. ;) Squirt it at the top of the windshield and then spread it around. I said in the video to do that before you wash the car so that you can wash the windshield to remove the haze.

Wow, Thats the first time i've actually seen it in action. I wonder how it would react if you used this as say a lsp on your paint? Maybe apply it over a sealant or a coat of wax. Sure would be intresting.

It has quite a bit of alcohol in it so it would probably remove most waxes. I use it all the time on glass though.

Many people have different results after using RainX, especially the wipers will 'hop' when you turn them on. So I thought it will be a good idea if you can show us exactly how you do the application ;) .

For me, I did it a different way, I did not squirt it at the top of the windshield but apply RainX with a foam applicator pad. After that I spray water on it and than remove the haze with a MF towel. The result is not as good as yours and the wipers 'hop' when turn on :( .

When you say 'wash the windshield to remove the haze', do you mean using shampoo water and do you need to do any hard rubbing to get the haze off the windshield. Also, how long do you leave RainX to dry on the windshield before washing it away ? Sorry for all the questions :p

Aquapel lasts much longer

That isn't the point. RainX is available everywhere and costs about $.03 cents per application. For as much longer as Aquapel lasts I'd say that RainX is still a better value by about a thousand or so. This was just meant to be a demonstration of what glass protection like this can do and not a "Aquapel lasts longer" thread.

I apply it at the top of the glass and let it run down to nearly the bottom. Once it gets close I use a folded blue shop towel to rub it in. Just circular motions to spread it around is all I do. I do about half the windshield at a time and then go do the other side and the rest of the glass. Based on the contents of RainX, I would strongly advise against applying it to the paint. There would be absolutely no value in doing that.

I let it sit on the glass for about as long as it takes to clean the wheels and tires (Eagle One Wheel & Tire cleaner) and then I wash the rest of the car including the windshield. I suppose it sits there for maybe 5 minutes tops. Just wash it with the same water you washed the rest of the car with. I wash the windows last just so it has as much time to dry as possible, but it never takes long. The haze can be a pain to rub out if you don't do it this way, but obviously there are a million ways to do it. This is just how it works out best for me and my system. :)
